Submitted By: info@cannonbeacharts.org – Click to email about this post
Join us tomorrow August 16th from 4:30 to 6:30pm for the opening of “Taking Shape: Here and There” featuring work by Pam Greene and Christopher Belluschi.

The exhibition will showcase captivating artworks that explore the concept of form and space in both the familiar and abstract.

Pam Greene, known for her exquisite use of color and light will present a series of paintings that capture the essence of the ocean and the surrounding forest. With an MFA in art and design from Stanford, and an undergraduate degree in botany, she is a perpetual observer of nature’s inspiring forms. As an innovator, Greene approaches each painting as something of an experiment. She likes to be surprised as the composition emerges, and create balance with distilled, delineated shapes using brushstrokes aiming to capture nature’s spontaneity. The resulting pieces have a graphic quality with influences from many years of travel to East Asia, and study of East Asian art. Her work is represented in private collections nationally and internationally, and available through the Portland Art Museum’s Rental Sales gallery.

Christopher Belluschi is a sculptor based in Portland, Oregon. He sculpts reductively from both wood and stone and creates sculptures that are as captivating for the soul as they are for the eyes. He recently returned from six weeks of stone scouting and sculpting in Carrara, Italy. His current body of work reflects his reverence for Italian travertine, a storied, stratified stone which flaunts its bubbling formation in the primordial ooze.

This event is free and open to the public, meet the artists, view the collection, and enjoy refreshments.

The exhibition will be on display at Cannon Beach Arts Association from August 16th to September 22nd, 2024.

Share your vases with Friends of North County Recreation District

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Friends of North County Recreation District (NCRD) need vases. We’ve got another month of flower sales to go, and we are almost out of vases! We use a lot of quart size and pint size vases. We want to have them cleaned, but cleanable vases are ok too. Speaking of vases and flowers, have you been to the Little Apple in Manzanita and seen our beautiful flower arrangements? You can get a beautiful bouquet for $5 or $10-best deal in town. We are now picking from four different gardens and the bouquets are stunning. You could be a part of this activity of arranging flowers. We have openings for arrangers in September. If you have an hour to donate to Friends of NCRD Mission, we would love to have you join us. We start arranging at 9AM. For more details on this call Patty-503-368-6081. You will also meet some great people! Friends of NCRD raise money to support programs and projects at NCRD. Half the money we raise goes to the Youth Program. Spread some joy in your life by giving someone a flower bouquet. Thanks for reading.

FREE CONCERT: Ben Rice & The PDX Hustle – Sept 8

Submitted By: tolovanaartscolony@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Ben Rice & The PDX Hustle present a free concert in Cannon Beach’s downtown city park, at 5:00PM on Sunday, September 8th.

While Rice started in traditional blues, he’s built upon that foundation with soul, R&B, folk and country to fashion a welcoming front porch where everybody wants to hang out into the wee hours.

The electric and high-energy band features a horn section and a thumping rhythm section to get your body moving.

“My goal is to reach people in a way that they need to be reached,” Rice says, “to say things they may not get to say or hear things they may not normally get to hear.”

This free, family friendly concert, in Cannon Beach’s downtown city park, begins at 5:00PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, low-backed chairs and fully stocked picnic baskets. Dogs, Frisbees, soccer balls and the like are welcome too.

The park is located in downtown Cannon Beach, northeast of the Chamber of Commerce at 2nd & Spruce.

The concert is produced by the Tolovana Arts Colony and made possible by a Community Grant from the City of Cannon Beach.

For more information, visit tolovanaartscolony.org, email tolovanaartscolony@gmail.com, or call 541-215-4445.
