road maintenance

Submitted By: dwieb1@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
I came across an intriguing article that takes some states to task for mis-spending funds for road repair. Is this happening in Oregon? If so it’s truly damning, and why is it not reported more in light of the current ballot initiative? Better yet, why are those politicians opposing measure 120 making broad general claims instead of informing the public about these specific issues? Did Oregon really receive enough federal funds to maintain all its existing road infrastructure? Did Trump claw back the funds? It’s really hard to be adequately informed for voting. I doubt this article is misinformation, considering the source, but maybe I’m getting fooled here. -Dave

Tomorrow/Nehalem/Peaceful Protest

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Dear Friends,

North County Resistance invites you all to take a break from working in your gardens and walking on the beach, to join us tomorrow, Saturday, May 16 in Nehalem for our weekly peaceful protest. Yes, we are seeing showers coming at us, so please put on that rain gear, your boots, your gloves, and waterproof chairs and we’ll see you in Nehalem from noon to 2 PM.

And please remember to bring a jar of peanut butter and if you can, a jar of jelly to the protest. Food security in our area isn’t going to get any better in the next few months. What would you all think about having a food drive once a month at our protest with food collected and then distributed to the North County Food Bank in Wheeler and the Nehalem Bay Community Services in Nehalem? We can split the food between the two organizations and give you an easy way to donate once a month.

Thanks,
Patty

Vintage New-In-Box Nesco 12 Quart Roaster – Air Roaster-Brand New, Never Used

Submitted By: seagate45@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
Nesco 12-quart Roast Air/Convection Roaster, White Finish, was sold on QVC.
There is no photo of the actual roaster with this ad because it is still in the box.

The “stock” picture is of an 18 QT Nesco, and I think its design is about the same.

It is designed to roast up to a 12-pound turkey.
It’s a compact roaster safe on a countertop, doesn’t take a lot of space, and beats an oven for roasting a 12 lb turkey or other poultry.
What reviewers say:

1. Large capacity is a common plus, especially for turkeys and party food.

2. Many users say it cooks faster than a conventional oven and helps keep the kitchen cooler.

3. Easy cleanup and easy use are also repeated positives.

4. A well-liked appliance overall, especially for holiday cooking and keeping warm.

It was a gift to us in 2003, and we already had a roaster. No photo of the actual, as it’s still packed in the box pictured.

$45 or best offer.

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week: Ranger & Hazel

Submitted By: website@unitedpaws.org – Click to email about this post
Meet Ranger & Hazel, United Paws’ Kittens of the Week. Life started out in a rough and scary way for this pair. Ranger and his sister, Hazel, were found sick and abandoned at the local transfer station. Both were in terrible shape. Happily, they were rescued by United Paws and given the medical care they needed. They are now thriving in a foster home where they receive lots of love, attention, and good food. Each is now ready to settle down with in a forever home.

Like any healthy and fun loving kitten, Ranger loves to play, wrestle, chase, climb, and explore his world and everything in it. He especially loves climbing cat trees and playing in tunnels. He has lots of fun batting around foil balls and chasing laser lights. He has always been a bit shy at first – standing behind the bold personality of his sister, Hazel. Once he feels safe and relaxed, his sweet and loving personality really shines.

Hazel is easy going, curious, loving, and very playful. She loves to play, wrestle, chase, climb and explore everyone and everything. She wants to be where the action is!! Every new object is a toy waiting to be discovered and played with. She especially loves chasing laser lights, burrowing in tunnels, and climbing up trees and perches. She wants to be where the action is! Hazel’s foster describes her as “loving life” and is “the perfect kitten in every way.” When she has exhausted herself playing, Hazel loves to be held or to sit and snuggle – content to be with her human.

Hazel and Ranger are two snuggly peas in a pod and would love to be in a home with other playmates or adopted together. If either is the only kitten in the household, her new family should provide a lot of interaction and playtime. Do you think these kittens could steal your heart? Visit unitedpaws.org to see more photos and videos, and email unitedpawshelp@gmail.com to schedule a Meet & Greet. Add some cuddles and playtime to life!

Fahrenheit 451 at Neahkahnie High School tonight and tomorrow night

Submitted By: vivi@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Last night I had the pleasure of attending “Fahrenheit 451” presented by the Pirate Players at Neahkahnie High School, a play based on Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel. The students did an incredible job, acted with skill and verve, delivered long monologues, and accomplished the many lighting and set changes.
I first read “Fahrenheit 451” for my high school English class, over 60 years ago. The theme of censoring books and substituting state programmed television struck a chord then, and it continues to be relevant today. These students did an impressive job of engaging with this thought provoking material.

Two more nights to see the show—7pm this Friday and Saturday. $5 for a ticket. Upstairs in the High School gym.
Park in the back of the school as entrance to the play is by the back door.

Don’t miss it!

Update on Water Damage at Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy

This is an update for the community regarding an internal water line connection failure this week at the Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy in Wheeler.

Sometime late Monday or early Tuesday – May 11 or 12 – a water line connection in a ceiling area failed and a significant amount of clean water spread throughout the first floor of the facility. Health Center staff discovered the situation as they arrived to open the building early Tuesday morning. Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue personnel responded quickly, as did Wheeler Public Works and water and power in the building was turned off.

Staff members quickly took up brooms and squeegees to direct water outside the building. There were no injuries and minimal damage to equipment and furnishings.

By late morning Tuesday water had been substantially moved out of the building and Servpro, a firm specializing in cleanup of such events, was onsite to begin efforts to dry the areas where water had penetrated baseboards or drywall. By Wednesday nearly all affected vinyl baseboards had been removed in order to facilitate drying that is being accomplished with dehumidifying equipment. Repairs to baseboard and sheetrock will begin when drying is complete, likely by the weekend.

The Health Center was able to operate the pharmacy and dental departments on Wednesday and those services are ongoing. It is hoped that full Health Center services will resume next week.

Health District president Marc C. Johnson said of the incident:

“While the Health District certainly regrets this unfortunate event we want to applaud the extremely quick and effective response from all who helped get water quickly out of the building. The quick response clearly minimized damage.

“Having said that no one expects a water line failure in a very new building, but unfortunately despite inspections and testing such events are not unheard of. The District, its contractor and subcontractors, have appropriate levels of insurance and facility equipment remains under warranty.

“The Health Center and Pharmacy will fully and quickly recover from this and will be back in full operation as soon as humanly possible.”

Both the board of the Health District that owns the facility and the Health Center leadership and staff who provide health care services thank our supportive community for their understanding.

We will continue to provide updates in the days ahead.

Thanks.
