Antique Attorney Bookcase

Submitted By: telaskinner@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
This antique attorney’s bookcase has been in my family for a few generations. It is oak and was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I had it shipped here in 2006. I’d like to see this bookcase go to someone who would cherish it.

The vintage bookcases I found on eBay are listed at $650 and much higher. I’m offering this one at $200.

Please email me if you are interested. Thank you.

The 30 Shamanic Questions ~ Spring Cleaning for the Soul

Submitted By: sbwceremonies@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
As Spring unfolds, the trees bud and the perennials poke through the soil, we may find ourselves also ready to emerge and unfold anew. Sometimes just the energy of the new season can launch us into a new way of being.

But often we have long-held beliefs and stories that keep us stuck and unable to see who we truly are. We want to be freer, we want to take bold steps, or we want try something new, but there is something that keeps us small.

The 30 Shamanic Questions is a powerful journey of self-inquiry that has helped thousands of people uncover, recover and discover who they truly are beyond the stories that have kept them small.

This experience will be via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere. For seven weeks, we will meet and engage with deep questions that carry us along a progressive experience of peeling back the layers of old stories to reveal who we are beyond these narratives.

Registration ends April 10th. Space is limited to 8 people

Nature Break: Sunday Brunch Edition!

Meet at 9:30AM at the South Neahkahnie Trailhead for another walk down LNCT’s Headwater’s trail to our stewardship benches, this time for a late breakfast. We’ll bring the coffee! Brown bag your brunch, cross your fingers for some lovely sunny weather, and enjoy a slow morning outside with friends.

To access the Headwaters Trail, we will meet at the Neahkahnie Mountain South Trailhead parking lot and walk down from there. The walk is ~2.5 miles round trip, with a gentle incline.

Note—the Headwaters trail is uneven and mildly steep in some areas. Plan to wear shoes with a decent tread and dress for the weather. Email maijahecht@nehalemtrust.org with any questions.

Not a credible messenger

Submitted By: judysugg@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
When we read social media posts, it may not be obvious that no one has vetted the credibility of the statements. Randy Kugler has been posting long, rambling posts on overhead cost allocation in Manzanita for a long time. I have suspected that he is a bit green-eyed about how well the city operates without his assistance, but my comments below are about his credibility in writing these posts, not his motivation.
As part of his latest harangue, Kugler trotted out a “survey” (see March 28, BBQ) to support his ongoing attack on standard accounting practices. Apart from the survey’s credibility, there’s the issue of his past behavior as Philomath city manager. During that time, Kugler regularly transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars from that city’s water, sewer, street, and urban renewal funds to the general fund to underwrite administrative costs. In fact, the amounts Kugler transferred into the general fund over many years to cover what he called “Administrative Overhead” always exceeded the cost of administration. For example, for the 2010-11 budget, Kugler asked the Philomath City Council to transfer $248,964 from the four funds mentioned above to the general fund to cover administrative overhead. In that same budget, Kugler proposed to spend only $227,930 for administration and planning, an overpayment of $21,034. If you’re curious, the City of Philomath has its historical budgets online.
After profiting for years from the overhead cost accounting method he established at Philomath, Kugler now wants to restrict Manzanita’s ability to cover its overhead costs. We could ponder his motivations, but the question remains: Is Kugler a credible messenger?
I urge our city council to ignore Kugler’s social media noise. I hope citizens review what he says with a skeptical eye.

Are Oregon’s Top Democrats More Interested in Housing the Poor or Helping Their Campaign Donors?

www.oregonjournalismproject.org/astoria-wages

This article from the Oregon Journalism Project looks at homelessness & housing in Astoria. It’s pretty clear that Democrats in Oregon need new blood at every level, starting at the top with Gov. Kotek. This is of course also evident at the national level, with too many of the marquee names being far too self-satisfied, low energy and caught up in the antique rituals of governance.

I’m not writing to suggest the GOP as an option. They are too far gone into a cult to be considered as having integrity as agents of change.

Please support the Oregon Journalism Project if you are able.

I haven’t read this new book, but it appears to address this issue as well: www.simonandschuster.com/books/Abundance/Ezra-Klein/9781668023488

Save Three Bucks on Tim Snyders’s book On Tyranny

Submitted By: genedieken@yahoo.com – Click to email about this post
In response to the first Trump presidency, Tim Snyder wrote On Tyranny. The former Yale professor is a world-renowned expert on authoritarian movements. It’s a quick 120ish page book that is full of information about how authoritarianism arises and takes control. It includes pieces about what you personally can do to stand up against it.
Tim Snyder went into exile at the University of Toronto last week. To note this ominous development and to honor Snyder, I have created a fund at Cloud & Leaf Bookstore to provide a discount on purchase of his book. Please take advantage of it while you can! See coupon below.
