Remembering Bobbie Recio and The River Sea Inn

Submitted By: banjo2@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Aileen ‘Bobbie’ Recio used to own the River Sea Inn in Wheeler in the ’70’s and ’80’s. It was right there by the Wheeler City Boat ramp and later became Heron Rock, The Sea Shack, Salmonberry among other names.

She and her husband Nick employed many people, they had Dinner Theaters upstairs so lots of locals were involved in that.

I remember they had dogs including Pharaoh Hounds, which are a (nearly) hairless dog.
When Bobbie retired, she and Nick moved to Willits, CA where she made many friends and a ‘splash,’ literally in that community. (See obituary)

Having not heard from her, I finally found a mutual friend who shared that she passed away in April of 2023 at the age of 93 (Nick passed in 2015). You Go Bobbie! What a good long life.

Attached is her Obituary which conveys her spirit-
She is survived by a niece and a nephew, but of course many friends.

I would love to hear some memories of her if you’d like to share? Maybe eventually I can get a collection of these memories to her family. I can still hear her voice, kind of raspy and always enthusiastic.

Sincerely,
Lori Dillon

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week

Submitted By: unitedpawshelp@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Lucy and Cindee were rescued from a Tillamook trailer park where a kind resident had been feeding about a dozen kittens and cats. She asked United Paws to help by taking some of the kittens since she was on overwhelm. Lucy and Cindee are two of those rescues and they have turned out to be two of the sweetest and most loving cats we have had.
Cindee has a luscious black coat with subtle streaks and hints of deep brown. When she first arrived at United Paws, she was somewhat shy and frightened of the new environment, but within a few days of sweet talking and petting, Cindee transformed into a loving sweetheart who greets you and rolls onto her back, waiting for your belly rubs. If you have been dreaming of being greeted like this, Cindee is the kitten for you!
Lucy also has an elegant black coat with subtle markings of deep brown stripes that stand out in the sunlight. Her beauty is matched by her sweet loving personality. No doubt about it, she loves to hang out with humans who adore her! Lucy has a powerful motor—she will purr all day long—and she wants to give you kisses while she snuggles near your face and hair. Lucy and her sister Cindee can both be energetic together at playtime and they love wand toys! They are happy to play with you, but when they’re tired, they gladly will settle into your lap for some cuddles. Lucy, in particular, will purr for a long time like a calming lullaby after a long day. Simply stated, Lucy is the cat’s meow!
These sisters are ready for loving homes. They would love to stay together since they are fabulous playmates. However, they can go to separate loving homes, if necessary. Both are spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for a home of their own.
If you are interested in meeting them before making a decision, a “Meet & Greet” at United Paws can be arranged once you have been pre-approved for adopting through United Paws. Contact us by email, phone, or Facebook messenger. You can get an Adoption Application off our website for preapproval: www.unitedpaws.wordpress.com. Art Project?!?

Art project?!?

FREE to someone who would like to play with it.

Someone gave me this Folbot about 39 years ago and said that it was from the 40s. Being a canoer, I thought it would be fun to restore it as a hanging sculpture without a skin especially since the skin was not in good shape. Also, my only available storage place was damp so the cross section pieces (similar to the ones shown in the second picture of a 50s or 60s Folbot) were damaged and I (foolishly) got rid of them.

New Yoga and Movement Studio In Nehalem – Opening This Week

Submitted By: seadreamnehalem@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Some exciting and timely news this week:

Our Sea Dream space in downtown Nehalem is becoming solely a healing arts space with yoga, dance, Pilates, and creative group movement classes—as well as other healing arts offerings on the horizon (think reiki, massage and more)!

(Our retail shop is moving right next door into REVIVAL.)

Self-care is community care—and we will need to care for each other more than ever in our coming times. Practices that move energy and help connect mind, body and spirit can offer a powerful life raft to help move us through the twists and turns of life. I am very honored to be able to offer this space for our community, along with some incredible teachers and facilitators.

We will have many in-person (and some online hybrid), small-group classes and events. A variety of offerings are already scheduled on our website, and we will only grow in the coming months/years!
