Save our wetlands! Support the Appeal!
WEDNESDAY NOV 20TH@6PM:
Please attend the Public Hearing of the Appeal against the proposed Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development PUD-24. North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection is encouraging everyone to submit either oral or written testimony expressing opposition to PUD-24. The Public Hearing will occur at Rockaway Beach City Hall, 276 Hwy 101, Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Click here for Agenda and to attend by zoom: corb.us/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/City-Council-Special-Meeting-Agenda-2024-11-20.pdf
Why is this important?
The Nedonna Marsh is an intact remnant of the original native coast. Within this wild area is a native saltwater marsh, spruce/willow wetlands, and a dune area with many native plants. Coyotes, river otters, beavers, deer, and other wildlife call this area home. Migratory birds use it to rest and refuel. Two streams, Jetty Creek and McMillan Creek, flow through this estuary and into the Nehalem River. The marsh is currently under threat. It is privately owned and part of it is in immediate danger of being developed. If this happens, Oregon will lose this special place forever. We need to stand together and do what we can to protect it.
In July 2024, the Rockaway Beach Planning Commission approved the Nedonna Wave Development, which would allow for a new housing subdivision within the Nedonna Marsh. In response to this approval, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition has submitted an appeal to the Rockaway Beach City Council. Oregon Shores is being represented by the Crag Law Center. To support their efforts, North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) is starting a letter-writing campaign. We are encouraging everyone to send in comments and letters supporting this appeal. We also think it would be helpful to email the City Council members and express our strong opposition to the proposed construction of homes in the wetland area, as we believe it is unconscionable.
How to submit comments to support the appeal:
Oral public testimony will be heard and written public comments will be accepted at, or prior, to the hearing. If submitting comments prior to the hearing, deliver to the City Hall, or mail them to the Planning Department at P.O. Box 5 Rockaway Beach, OR 97136. You may also email written comments to City Recorder Melissa Thompson at cityrecorder@corb.us. Please use file number #Appeal-24-1 on written comments and include your name, mailing address, and phone number.

Forever Wild
For Michael McGinnis
I am beginning to listen.
Near the horizon of awareness
attuned to distant sounds,
I am listening to the ocean,
as you have listened.
Welcoming the rise and sweep
of this forever wild, I begin
to let go. Soon, there is space
around my breath, fertile, open,
and boundless, enough
to begin to know the freedom
in compassion. Awakening
in this grace, a joy is given
where the first and last words
often soar, rising out of silence
in celebration and praise,
wild and merciful,
a whole-hearted hallelujah!

Vintage 5 Gal Mason Jar For Sale
One of the most interesting fact about this jar is: It was actually fished out of the Nehalem Bay in the Mud after one of our many floods..So really someone reading this might recognize it!
It Has an Eagle on one side…The Words say:
MASONS PATENT NOVEMBER 1858 (that’s not year made).
The third picture is of a smaller root beer barrel type jar that I just turned into a smellsavision Seasonal Lamp ..it has Cinnamon Spice Pinecones and some very realistic Faux Fruit that the lights warm up! Makes your place feel Cozy!
Asking $50 for that one or I can empty it out and you can just buy the jar for $20!
I believe that jar is about 2.5 gall?! Also no lid!
Thanks,
Bonnie

other side of election
We are left with a nation deeply divided.
Going forward, we should work through our differences with civility and tolerance.
Painting people who voted differently than did in inflammatory terms will do nothing to bring us together and solve our problems.
Big government can mean taking care of one another. Open borders can mean having enough employees to do the dangerous, dirty, and demeaning jobs we have trouble filling, child mutilation is a “scare word” for free choices, forced experimental shots never happened, and all our wars date from 2014 or earlier.
I sincerely hope I am wrong, but I think the ride we’re embarking on will be one we regret.
Thankfully, elections come around every 2 years. It may not be too late to reverse our course. Let’s temper our future choices with kindness and tolerance.
Respectful discussion is welcome at codger817@gmail.com.
