Kudos to the City of Manzanita

I wanted to acknowledge a very quick response i recently from the City of Manzanita. I contacted Rick Remper with a request to see if there was a possibility of reducing the lighting on the old fire/police station on 5th St. since it was no longer operating as the police station. I got a response from Mr. Remper the next day saying he would check in with Erik Harth to see what might be done. A few days later i got a followup email saying they were able to redirect the lights facing Dorcas Lane and to report on the lighting.. I responded that the other lights on 5th were the ones that were really bright. A few nights later i was on the upper deck enjoying a beautiful Manzanita evening and noticed a significant difference, the lighting had been reduced!
I found out that the sides of the lights were painted over so the lighting only pointed straight down.
I appreciate the results and the VERY quick responses from both of these individuals.

When we were looking for bikes for our kids to use while visiting this summer, Peg Miller gifted us this classic beach cruiser.
I don’t have room to store it so take it and use it – and maybe I can borrow it back next summer? Or not.

Hello ALL!
There are a few adjustments to the Rising Hearts Studio schedule as we move into September/Fall Season.
Our shop hours are now Friday-Sunday 11 AM- 4PM, and by appointment. That means no Thursday shop hours for the time being. Remember: ALL SALES HELP SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY EVENTS- Please come shop!
Also, all grief and support groups will now meet on the Second Week of the Month –
***Animal Loss Grief Support is on the Second Thursday 5:30-6:30PM – Are you grieving the loss of your animal companion, are you an animal care giver who is in burnout, are you grieving the loss of our wild spaces and those who habitat them? This group is for you – to have your grief witnesses, to be held in a container of love and support with others who are experiencing some of those same feelings. This group is by donation, and facilitated by Animal Chaplain Rev. Christy Kay- ALL ARE WELCOME.
***Adult Grief Support is now on the Second Friday 5:30-6:30 PM – are you grieving the loss of a person or role that was dear to you? This group provides a safe space to express, share, and process your grief, in whatever form it may be. Hosted by Sam Wall, grief counselor and death doula. This is a free group, sponsored by HUGGS (Helping us Give/Get Support.
****Spiritual Support Group meets on the Second Saturday 9-10 AM – are you having feelings of hopelessness, lacking connection and community? Do you need spiritual support in a non judgmental environment? This group is non denominational and welcomes all who are needing space to connect and restore on a spiritual level. Our time together can include spiritual practices like meditation, sound baths, prayer, creative projects, nature walks, card readings, and spiritual teachings. Please join us if called. This group is led by Rev Christy Kay, and is by donation.
Community Open Music Jam will continue on the First Friday, 6 PM THAT”S TOMORROW!! Bring your instruments, your voice, yourself – and let’s have fun playing music together. This FUN FREE event is open to ALL!!

PLEASE Stay tuned – more community events are yet to come!

Rising Hearts Studio is a continued community partner, and drop off site for FOOD DONATIONS, and WINTER GEAR FOR THE HOUSELESS- please consider dropping off your canned and dry goods, shelf stable milk, fresh foods, and your like new coats/hats, boots/shoes, blankets/sleeping bags, tents and tarps!! They will go to those who need them most in OUR Community!

Rising Hearts also continues hold resources for anyone needing PEER Support, grief support, and other community help- just drop in and see how we may help. We also have the only north county outside drug overdose response box, for 24/7 emergencies. It’s on the porch wall, and is available for anyone who needs it. You could save a life!

VOLUNTEER FOR MUTTZANITA ON SATURDAY

Muttzanita 2025 is THIS SATURDAY (Sept 6)

We are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, tear-down and throughout the event.

Set-up will begin at 8am on 1st and Laneda. We will begin tearing down at 1pm.

You can just show up, or text Meghan (503-708-6047) if you want to be assigned a specific task (road/parade monitors, contest judges, silent auction, beach events, etc).

We are also looking for two golf carts to be decorated and drive in the parade (no damage will be done to the carts. We will decorate and un-decorate for you). Carts would need to be on site by 9am and will be done by 11am. Please contact Meghan if you are interested.

I think it is about 4-5 years old, $2700-2900, new. Runs tip top, except the LED lights do not seem to operate. I inherited this hot tub when I recently purchased this house, and I am upgrading with a larger hot tub. So, I no longer need this one. $900 o.b.o, will consider any reasonable offer. You will need a truck and some bodies to load it out.

Manzanita Farmers Market Week 17: Friday 4-7

August may be over, but the farmers market is still going strong! We have 3 more weeks of fresh food, live music, and artisan crafts before we take a break for the winter. September is one of the most abundant months for our farmers, and with the tourist crowds beginning to thin out, it’s a great time to come to market!

Our farmers will continue to bring the summer goodies we all love: tomatoes, corn, peaches, dahlias, and more. But we should also start to see more fall produce arriving as the days grow shorter and nights cool off, so keep an eye out for more root crops, squash, cabbages, and more.

After a couple week hiatus, we are again tripling your SNAP benefits and will continue to do so for the rest of the season! Sales of our new commemorative poster fund our Triple Up benefits, enabling lower income members of our community to shop at the farmers market and supporting our farmers and vendors. Get yours at the market info booth!

Music this week is by our own market manager Carolina, performing as Corvus Landing. With a voice like sweet bourbon and a unique multi instrumental style, you’ll hear original songs and familiar tunes like you’ve never heard them before. With her own feet playing percussion and a range of electric and acoustic sounds, Corvus Landing covers a range of pop, blues, Americana, rock, and soul.

Community Urged to Attend Public Hearing to Protect Nedonna Beach Wetlands from Development

ROCKAWAY BEACH, OR. – North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) is calling on all concerned residents of the North Coast to attend an upcoming public hearing and voice support for safeguarding Nedonna Beach’s irreplaceable coastal wetlands.  Help prevent further development and establish  a precedent for protecting Oregon’s vital wetlands and drinking water sources.

NCCWP, a nonprofit advocating for an end to logging and pesticide use in community drinking water sources regardless of ownership, works to ensure safe drinking water and clean air as public trust rights.

Did anyone catch the story this morning on local station Fox12 about younger politicians reported by Camila DeChalus? This is very encouraging to me and I hope signals a real game change. Unfortunately I cannot find the story on their website or I would provide a link. Maybe they’ll put it up later, or at least they’re likely to repeat the story on TV in subsequent newscasts.

Critical environmental legislation proposed

Western Oregon (north coast, Willamette Valley) is a hotbed for aerial-spraying and other climate-engineering activities. The aeria- spraying is done by DARPA. 



Not a fan of ICE? Trust me, look at DARPA (what you can find, much of what they do is in secret) and you will hate that agency even more. And they target everyone, not just folks living here unlawfully.

Perhaps Oregon Democrats can get off their partisan horses for just one moment and support this critical environmental legislation being proposed by a Congressional Republican? So far, not one democrat in Oregon government will even speak of the geo-engineering being done by the Drumf Admin, and Biden before that.

What could the motivation behind this bill be other than a clean environment, as God intended?

The Red Cross has over 135 years of experience providing humanitarian aid including more than 75 years of supplying blood to those in need. Each pint of blood they collect can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. Life Drawing at the Hoffman Center for the Arts

HCA invites attendees of all experience levels who are interested in developing their artistic practice and working from the human form to join us for life drawing sessions at the Hoffman Center for the Arts.

The sessions are scheduled every other Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in our main classroom space. Bring your preferred drawing materials (no oil-based media or solvents please) and an easel if you have one. The Hoffman Center has a limited supply of easels and drawing materials; first come, first served. The Hoffman Center will provide drawing boards.

The tuition is $20 per two-hour session, which includes the fee for the model. We encourage pre-registration, though drop-in participation is welcome. Please contact visualarts@hoffmanarts.org with questions about life drawing sessions or joining our group of fantastic life drawing models.

Join WEBS Board President, Michael Krall on Saturday, September 20th for an introduction to Tillamook County birds and birding. Starting with an optional, two hour, slow and easy bird walk, participants will scope out some of our Northwest feathered friends along inland trails and coastal shores. After the walk, the group will meet at the Netarts Community Club for an informative indoor presentation. Michael will share his photographs, some tips on where and when to bird in Tillamook County, and talk about some of the birds we can expect to see in these diverse habitats.

Michael birds and photographs extensively in Tillamook County, around Oregon, and beyond. He caught the birding bug starting with a Golden Eagle banding in central Oregon with his 8th grade science teacher some 60 years ago. Michael says “I have always been partial to woodpeckers” and in 2017 he made a book of photographs featuring all 22 woodpecker species found in the US and Canada. Now Michael is working on the 50 or so US warbler species and has just a few to go! “So many birds, so little time!”

We understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently, and we strive to support everyone who is interested in attending our events! Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your accessibility needs.
