Storm took skeleton’s Santa hat

Submitted By: Halfaniceday@hotmail.com – Click to email about this post
The Friday 13th storm took away my skeleton’s Santa hat in Wheeler. Oh no! It’s cold, n stormy. A bare skeleton needs warmth (and Christmas spirit) The hat could be anywhere. Those winds, hail, and rain were fun and awesome … and the hat went for a ride. Somewhere.
Maybe a Mermaid will find it in the river?
Maybe a Salmon has decided to wear it?
Maybe a Bird has a new warm nest?
Maybe a Coyote is sporting it and is the envy of it’s buddies (maybe The Coyote added the word ACME to it to chase after a Roadrunner?)
Maybe it’s perched atop an Elk’s antlers?
It’s likely gone. But perhaps You’ve seen it blowing past?
Or perhaps somebody with a little Bit of Grinchy spirit of the season has a spare hat or scarf they’d like to keep my skeleton warm with? Feel free to adorn my skeleton at Spruce and Hwy 101. You’ll see the skeleton shivering on the porch.
Thank you in advance for laughing along with me, and having fun! Stay silly. Have a magical and beautiful day! Jon

The “cabinet”

Politics-The list of the unqualified, the brazenly biased, the ones who have, and are getting wealthier from, government contracts, the sexual predators, the ill informed etc, now has another nominee. Kari Lake has been named to head the worldwide news organization “ The voice of America”, which she (and trump), have maligned and criticized. Widely listened to by millions, both in this country annd around the world it provides critical news, commentary and critique of governments and happenings and is essential to the maintenance of a free press.
Our journalists and their companies provide people with the good, bad and ugly so that an informed citizenry can make healthy choices at the polls. Kari Lake joins a long list of those who would quash dissent and jail journalists and spread false conspiracies. Arizona declined to give her their support, twice! Secret on-line actors, using AI are already distorting the news and conspiracy theorists like trump and his minions will only make it worse. Call your representatives and demand better choices. Trump and the far right DO NOT hold all the cards. Be kind, but fight back against this tyranny. Our freedom depends upon it.

Tarot Reading at Wild on Saturday

Submitted By: lane@lanedemoll.com – Click to email about this post
Local Nehalem artist Lane deMoll will be giving 3-card tarot readings at Wild in Manzanita this coming Saturday 12/14 from 1-4 pm. She’ll be using the deck she created. Readings will be 10-15 minutes for $20. Her deck will be available for sale during the afternoon.

Although Lane has been reading cards since 1995, the paintings in Lane’s Greenwitch Tarot were not done with a deck in mind. Rather they were created over the past 30 years of her own process and journey. She gives readings in her booth all summer at the Manzanita Farmer’s Market as well as longer in depth readings at her home.

Lane has lived in the community almost 50 years and helped start a number of local institutions including Fire Mountain School, CARTM Recycling, Lower Nehalem Community Trust, NeahCasa and Fulcrum Community Resources. More information about her, the deck and her paintings can be found on her website lanedemoll.com.

Gifts for Children Needed

Submitted By: maryfaith.bell@tillamookcounty.gov – Click to email about this post
Dear Neighbors,

Please consider providing Christmas presents for children of families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. Tides of Change (formerly the Tillamook County Women’s Resource Center) offers a loving and meaningful ‘holiday shopping’ experience, providing parents who have received services from Tides of Change the opportunity to “shop” (for free) and choose donated gifts for their children.

This year Tides of Change has received far more requests from families than ever before, forty more kids than last year are in need, and we urgently need for additional gifts in order not to have to turn parents away.

Giving is easy, go to: www.tidesofchangenw.org/holiday-giving
You can shop the Tides of Change gift registry on Amazon, choose gifts that are suggested, and Amazon will deliver them to Tides of Change. That’s what I did, it took five minutes. You can also drop off unwrapped gifts for children of all ages, donate gift cards (very popular with teens) or donate money for staff to buy gifts. Gifts will be received through December 20.

It is my hope that every child in Tillamook County will receive a gift this Christmas. Having grown up in a very poor family, my brother and sister and I received gifts from charity organizations for several years when we were small. I can tell you honestly that those gifts, which may have been small things to the givers, were huge for us. I vividly remember a shiny white patent leather purse that I received one Christmas when I was about seven years old. We were fortunate to get shoes that fit; there was no money for things we did not need, like a little girl’s purse, and I would not have dreamed of asking for one. Fifty-two years later I remember that pretty white purse, and how it filled me with wonder and happiness. It made my Christmas memorable and special, and it informed the person I would become, someone who cares about those less fortunate among us, particularly children.

If you imagine that your gift of a Nerf ball or a gift card or a child’s purse won’t really make a difference, you are mistaken. One small thing freely given has the power to change a child’s life. Thank you for giving as you can.

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones,

Mary Faith Bell
Tides of Change board chair
Tillamook County Commissioner
