Farming is a rain or shine endeavor. It’s the middle of August: crops are growing, and they need to be harvested on schedule to keep yields high and production steady. Our farmers only have so many weeks to produce, harvest, and sell everything. Careful planning goes into ensuring a full enough market stand with sales sufficient to carry the business through the winter.
It’s a similar story for our non-farm vendors: market vending is seasonal, and each week is important to ensure a business’s success. We will have a smaller group of vendors tomorrow, since some people’s products are vulnerable to damage in the rain, and they’ve opted not to put their stock at risk. But many of our intrepid coastal vendors will be there tomorrow, and I hope you will too!
We’re coasties. Let’s embrace this rainy climate we all love! Put on your rain gear, come down to the market, and join us in gratitude for the beautiful fresh water that falls from the sky to keep our home clean, cool, green, and beautiful! And let’s enjoy the amazing food supported by that rain: the season is in full swing and you can expect to see all the produce, including abundant tomatoes and corn.
See you at the market, Friday 4-6 pm, 635 Manzanita Ave!
