Winter Waters presents: Wheeler Waters!

Save our wetlands!
-They protect us from flooding. They act as natural sponges, holding water during floods and slowly releasing it during droughts. Coastal wetlands – like mangroves – reduce wave energy and storm surges, helping to protect settlements near the sea.
-They are nurseries – as well as breeding and feeding habitats – for fish and other wildlife
-They are the kidneys of our landscapes, helping to filter out sediment and other pollutants before water carries on downstream.
-They are sources of food. More than 50 percent of the world relies on food sourced from wetlands. .
-They are of cultural, recreational, educational, and spiritual value to people around the world.
-They absorb and store carbon in their soil, helping to slow and reduce the impacts of climate change.
-They replenish underground aquifers. Only 2.5 percent of the world’s water is freshwater. A world without wetlands is a world without clean and healthy freshwater.
For these reasons, no more houses should be built in the Nedonna Wetlands! Join us in supporting Oregon Shores Appeal to LUBA against the Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development. Picture is of where one of the lots will be built!

Plane Crash
Also: Just as multiple air travel related tragedies have taken place, it’s been reported that the FAA is fighting a class action lawsuit alleging it denied
1,000 people air traffic controller jobs based on diversity hiring targets, according to the New York Post. The lawsuit, originally filed in 2015, resurfaced following this fatal midair collision in Washington, DC, that claimed 67 lives—the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster in nearly 25 years. Hours after this tragic plane crash, a small private plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, putting emphasis on the role of air traffic control.
At the time of the blackhawk helicopter incident, staffing levels were reportedly “not normal.” Andrew Brigida, the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, criticized the FAA’s focus on diversity and inclusion, suggesting it contributed to the likelihood of such an accident.
The New York Post report says that the lawsuit claims the FAA, under the Obama administration, replaced a skill-based hiring system with a “biographical assessment” to increase minority hires.
FREE MOVIE NIGHT!
