HOPE?

Submitted By: trippleddare@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The Democratic regime in Oregon has attempted to raise the highest taxes ever in Oregon without a vote from the people. People are barely getting by, the Democrats in the legislature are basically saying to the working class “let them eat cake”. The huge siphoning off of money has been given to failed programs in Oregon, like “deflection” and the education program. They also have decided to allow the Oregon schools to fail when student achievements are the lowest in America. And as in all authoritarian regimes the state of Oregon has taken over serious decisions involving minor children, taking this away from parents. Also allowing students to graduate even though they cannot read or write.
The wealthy Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, not only taking one million dollars every year from USAID and also making use of insider trading is now worth 167 million dollars, and she is certainly not the only Democratic millionaire legislator to do this. Democrats keep electing Senator Ron Widen who doesn’t even live in this state, his wife has received 2,7 million dollars from covid money even though she didn’t use it as it was intended, and then under Biden it was decided that the people who got the money could just keep it!! Millions and millions of dollars of covid money they can just “keep”!!
But maybe things are changing – lets hope- for the first time since 2002? Some elected Democrats are pushing back against this authoritarianism taxing regime in Oregon.

PROTEST, JULY 5, MANZANITA

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Dear Folks,

Thanks once again for showing up in Nehalem last week. The PROTEST was a good one, lots of thumbs up and horns honking. We look for the same thing this Saturday, July 5, in Manzanita. We will be PROTESTING from noon to 2 pm. In anticipation of having more people join us for this PROTEST we will have people stationed throughout the crowd with orange vests on. If for any reason you have a problem, please locate one of these people and they will help you out. If for any reason you have someone harassing you, please turn around and walk away and find a person with an orange vest on. If an orange vested person sees you are doing something dangerous, they will call you out and please listen to them. Because this is going to be a busy weekend, and because Highway 101 is a very busy route, we will be asking two things of you.

1. DO NOT CROSS HIGHWAY 101 TO THE EAST SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. DO NOT CROSS THE HIGHWAY TO TAKE PICTURES. DO NOT CROSS THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DOES. JUST DO NOT CROSS THE HIGHWAY. BY DOING SO YOU PUT YOURSELF AND OTHERS IN DANGER.

2. TO CROSS THE HIGHWAY NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 101 AND LANEDA AVENUE, BY MANZANITA LUMBER, WE WILL HAVE AN ORANGE VESTED PERSON THERE WITH A FLAG TO HELP YOU CROSS. PLEASE LISTEN TO THEM AND CROSS WHEN THEY ARE READY. WE ASK YOU NOT TO CROSS AT THIS LOCATION BETWEEN NOON AND 2 pm WITHOUT THE CROSSWALK WALKER-THEY WILL HAVE A FLAG.

Our North County Food Bank (NCFB) needs your help. They need someone to go to bat for them to get the money they were promised to build a new food bank. They must be out of their location in Wheeler in October and have no place to go. Yes, we need someone with big pockets to stand up. If you can’t stand up, maybe you know someone who can. Checks can be sent to the NCFB, PO Box 162, Wheeler, Oregon, 97141. We will be raising money for the NCFB on this coming Saturday at the protest. We will have some flags for sale. The 4×6″cotton flags are on sale for $2.00 and we have a dozen of the 12×18″ which are $8.00. Please bring exact change. First come first serve on the flags. If we sell all the flags, we expect to make $384. Yes, a drop in the bucket, but a start. If you want to pay more, please do. All money will go to our NCFB. And please bring some food. We are looking for canned or boxed foods to give to the food bank. Cereals, canned meats, tomatoes, snacks for kids, whatever you can give is appreciated. Pleased stay tuned into the Food Bank so we can keep our community healthy. We are most thankful for your help with our Food Bank. We will have boxes for all the food you bring.

Will there be counter protesters there? Perhaps. We don’t know. We are protesting and they are protesting. What WE don’t want to do is engage them-just turn around and WALK AWAY. Yes, we are a peaceful protest and do not want any confrontations. Find that person in the orange vest and buddy up with them. If you have any problems being at this PROTEST, bring a buddy and stick together. Tie yourselves together if you feel comfortable doing that. I must say I personally feel “intimidated” going to a protest-once I am there, I am fine. I am not I anymore, it is we. I am focused on wanting us to rid ourselves of President Trump. I am mad about the January 6th rioters who were released. I am mad about the Republicans giving President Trump a green light. You know about the green lights that are cutting off our citizens from government programs. Without these programs many will suffer and/or die. And on and on it goes. I am sure each of you has something you might lose.

Bring your water, your sunscreen, dress in layers, if you have a sign bring it, bring your neighbors, email this to 25 of your friends.

Have a safe 4th of July!

Let us keep this event peaceful and productive. The following is from the group Invisible:

 Be joyful! Indivisible has always been committed to nonviolent action.

 Ignore or walk away from hecklers/instigators/counter protesters

 Don’t Engage with hostile individuals

 Keep/create a safe distance from instigators or issues

 Stick together and use the buddy system

 Video and document all issues and report to event organizers (they will be wearing bright vests)

 Follow directions from event organizers (they will be wearing bright vests).

Thanks,
Patty

Habitat Restoration Site Tour @ Nehalem River Ranch 7/5 at Noon

Submitted By: info@nehalemwatershed.org – Click to email about this post
The Nehalem Basin Partnership is hosting a series of site tours and public meetings to share salmon habitat restoration work that has been done in the Nehalem Watershed. The first of these site tours will be at the riparian and silvopasture plantings at the Nehalem River Ranch at 12:00 pm on July 5th, 2025. This tour will last 1-2 hours and is open to the public. Landowners with river or streamside properties are particularly encouraged to attend.

The Nehalem River Ranch is a multi-species, pasture-based farm that raises grass-fed beef and pastured pork while partnering with other local farmers who raise chickens, grow cut flowers, and other farm products. In 2020, Nehalem River Ranch partnered with the Nehalem Bay Watershed Council to plant over a mile of riparian trees and shrubs and 4 acres of silvopasture. Simultaneously, with support from the Tillamook Soil and Water Conservation District, Nehalem River Ranch also planted pollinator hedge rows between their pastures. Trees were planted and maintained by the Backyard Planting Program at Tillamook Estuaries Partnership.

“I’m very excited to share this project with our community,” says Zac Mallon, Director of the Nehalem Bay Watershed Council. “This is a great example of how managing Japanese knotweed on the banks of the Nehalem River isn’t a lost cause. The conifers planted in this project will push the knotweed out as their canopy develops. The trees are now reaching a size where grazing among the plantings for knotweed suppression is possible too!” He also says that this project will benefit salmon by absorbing nutrients from the fields, shading the river, and managing erosion by developing strong, fibrous root systems in the riverbank as erosion promoting knotweed gets pushed out.

This will be a walking tour through an active farm so please wear sturdy walking shoes or boots that can get dirty.

For more information about the tour or about the Nehalem Landowner Engagement Initiative please contact the Nehalem Bay Watershed Council at info@nehalemwatershed.org. More information on the Nehalem Basin Partnership and our outreach initiative can be found at www.nehalembasinpartnership.com/Nehalem-landowner-engagement-initiative . The Nehalem River Ranch website is www.nehalemriverranch.com . The Backyard Planting Program at Tillamook Estuaries Partnership can be found at www.tbnep.org/programs/habitat-restoration/backyard-planting-program/ .

This work is funded by grants from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board and the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund. We thank them for their support of habitat restoration in the Nehalem Watershed.

Manzanita Farmers Market Needs Volunteers

Submitted By: jamietaylormassage@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi local friends! It’s your friendly neighborhood volunteer recruiter for the Manzanita Farmers Market. We have had an amazing early season crew that has been consistently showing up week after week to help set up or break down the market! Yay! The market goes from empty field to full service farmers market and back to empty field again in a matter of hours. This involves a quick bunch of hauling of signs and tents and tables and chairs. We could not do it without our volunteers! The amazing folks who have been showing up every week are gone for most of July. We need some more amazing people to participate! And the more the merrier! Many hands make light work! Please be in touch if you’ve got some muscle and some time on Fridays starting this week. There is a set up shift from 2:45-4 and a breakdown shift from 6:45-7:45. Thank you! You can reply to my email here or at VolunteerManzMarket@gmail.com
