Children’s Books Needed

Submitted By: janbehrs@hotmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hello, Kind BBQ-ers: About three years ago, I started stocking the Clothing Bank/Food Bank site in Wheeler with children’s books, since reading is SO vital to kids’ development. It has been a great success.
While the Library Foundation has generously allowed me to pick up their unsold children’s books each year after the book sale, I am actually getting short on books! (Yay!)
Might you have any outgrown books suitable for younger children that you could donate? They can be dropped off at the Clothing Bank between noon and 3 pm on Tuesdays. While I have plenty of middle-school-age books, I am short of books for smaller children. Thank you!

Participants Needed for DEQ Built Environment Information Gathering Sessions in August

Submitted By: laura@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
The Department of Environmental Quality is gathering information about how coastal community members view their built environment, and would love to hear from you!
The purpose of the listening sessions is to hear from people who live in the coastal built environment and we want to hear about their lived experience. The information shared will help shape the future of built environment work at DEQ in our area.
What is the built environment? It is all the places where you live, visit and travel. We’re asking you to join us because you live in the built environment every day and we want to hear about your lived experience.
We are looking at three sessions, Monday evenings on 8/7, 9/18 and 11/6. We would like to have a group of up to ten people who can attend all three sessions. There will be a stipend of $100 visa gift card after each session. We would provide food and childcare, if needed. Location will be in north Tillamook County and given after confirmation of attendance.
Please email LaNicia Duke at lduke@blackruralnetwork.org if you are interested in learning more or joining.

Writing Alive! Wants You!

Submitted By: writingaliveworkshops@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Writing Alive! offers a weekly writing workshop for women via Zoom on Wednesday Mornings, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Pacific. We limit the workshop to four women plus 2 back-up writers who fill-in when regulars are unavailable. We have a certified facilitator (Dana Cunningham Anderson, MS) who organizes our workshops, provides stimulating prompts and helps to nurture our positive feedback process.

We are looking for 1 full-time writer and 2 back-up writers for this workshop. Are you interested?

We enjoy three full hours of prompt-based writing in the style of The Amherst Method for Writers and Artists. We usually write to three prompts weekly. Our approach is designed to bring out what is most alive in the writer, supporting new writing in all genres and offering the benefit of focused feedback — what is most memorable; what stands out to the listener/reader, what is working well in the first draft.

Writing Alive! has been offering weekly workshops since the Fall of 2014. Pre-Covid, our workshops met at The Center for Contemplative Arts. Now, all our weekly workshops meet online via Zoom.

Here are the basics for this workshop. If you would like to begin later than August 2 (this week), rates can be prorated for you. Please contact Dana for information about how to make payment:

FOREVER HOME FOR SWEET CAT

Submitted By: kerryiallen@hotmail.com – Click to email about this post
Sam is a sweet cat, wonderful disposition and the softest meow for a big boy! His soft meow is in keeping with his gentle character.

His owner passed away in February and he is now
in need of a new forever home.

He loves being outside during the day however he spends his nights indoors.

Born in 2015, I guess he is considered as an older cat, he still plays like a kitten though.

If you are interested in seeing photos of Sam, reach out. Ideally his new forever home would be some land for him to investigate and maybe a garden, his is a great garden companion while one works in the yard.
