The Silent Measure – Written & Directed by Bryan Churchill

Some connections outlast the people who made them. Some losses stay with us not because we’re broken, but because we love deeply.

“The Silent Measure” is a captivating, thought-provoking two-act multimedia stageplay about memory, grief, and the enduring power of human connection.

Written and directed by Bryan Churchill, the story focuses on the shifting truths and complexities of our relationships, explored through an examination of the intersection of artificial and human consciousness, digital companionship, and how we process love and loss.

Presented by North Coast Creative Forum and hosted by NCRD Performing Arts Center, the play promises an evening of thought-provoking contemporary dramatic theater that will spark conversation long after the curtain falls.

“The Silent Measure” debuts on July 17 & 18. Performances begin at 7:00 PM on both nights.

Tickets can be reserved online at:

FRIENDS OF NETARTS BAY – WEBS, HOSTS
THREE TIDEPOOL DISCOVERY DAYS IN THE MONTH OF JUNE

Join us on the beach for some great low tides this June, perfect for exploring and discovering the amazing creatures lurking at the water’s edge. Choose one day – or all three – on the beautiful beaches in Oceanside.

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, friends, and family as you enjoy the beauty of Oceanside’s amazing tidepools. We hope to see you on the beach June 16th from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., the 17th from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 18th from 8:30a.m. – 12:00 pm.

Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS staff, Oregon State Park Rangers, and volunteers will be on-site in the tidepools to share about the habitats along the coastal edge. Learn about the anemone clone wars, how a sea star eats, or how hermit crabs find their shelled homes. From seaweeds to sculpin fish, there is an amazing world to discover!

Details: Wear boots or bring a change of shoes. DO NOT WEAR flip-flops (they are never ideal for exploring tide pools). Be prepared for Oregon Coast weather.

This program involves walking on slippery and uneven surfaces, including rocks that may be covered in water, seaweed, and barnacles. We understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently, and we strive to support everyone who is interested in attending our events! Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your accessibility needs.

Manzanita Farmers Market Week 3: Friday 4-7

Submitted By: info@manzanitafarmersmarket.com – Click to email about this post
The sun was shining and market was hopping last weekend, and we’re ready to do it again! We’ll be back for week 3 on Friday, 4-7 pm, with all the deliciousness. I’ve been loving the ripe strawberries, fresh greens, and beautiful flowers!

Help support our SNAP match program by buying our new 2026 commemorative poster, created by vendor Katie Simmons. We also have new organic cotton tote bags for sale featuring last year’s poster design. Stop by the market info booth to purchase merch, or to run your SNAP card! We also have the beach wheelchairs from the Visitor Center available to borrow at the info booth, free of charge.

Market is a great place to grab a casual dinner and enjoy live music with friends. This week we are welcoming back Sasquatch Sandwich Shop after a winter of travel! His sandwiches and Korean pork bowls are a hit, and one of my personal favorite market treats is his Vietnamese coffee. Malia’s Grill serves up tasty, nourishing poke bowls and Hawaiian plate lunches. Gnarly’s Tacos has amazing carnitas and fish tacos and pupusas. Antojitos Don Berna has refreshing original smoothies and mini pancakes, and Blessed Donuts serves up fresh, hot, gluten free mini donuts!

Music this week is by Lauren Sheehan. Dubbed the “Portland String Queen”, she plays a mix of old blues, early jazz, roots, and country for a blues-billy good time.

Conscious Aging and Community Connections June 8

Aging -in-Place.2; Decision-Making Tools
June 8, 2026. 2PM – 4PM
Pine Grove Community House
Manzanita

Attendees at our May Conscious Aging session engaged in a lively discussion about the pros, cons and complexities of Aging-in-Place in our own homes.

Participants shared ideas about what qualities of life they value most, now, as well as nearer end of life. We considered phases of aging as our abilities diminish and change. We compared the costs of aging in our homes, with possible in-home care, to the cost of assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

It became clear that all the aspects of Aging-in-Place could not be covered in only two hours.

By popular demand, at our June 8th meeting, we will continue our conversation about Aging-in-Place. This time, with emphasis on ways we can each make plans, based on our personal preferences, resources and our community assets and limitations.

Tela Skinner will facilitate the conversation. She will share an assessment tool she has developed that includes a questionnaire for self-evaluation of baseline preferences and abilities. Each person will be able to personalize the tool according to their own values, priorities, and current physical, emotional and mental abilities. The tool can be used to answer the questions repeatedly, as ones situation changes, or when it is time to reconsider our living situation.

Later this year we plan to hold a brainstorming session to identify opportunities for us to combine our time, energy, skills and resources to address individual and community concerns about aging in place.

We hope you’ll be able to join us for this engaging topic.

Your $5 donation supports the Pine Grove Community House.

Intro to Quilting (Mini Project)

Submitted By: Accalia.aeterna@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
In this two part class we are going to cover all the basics of quilting in a mini sized project. We are focusing on how to quilt from scraps to use up what would be left overs from bigger projects a quilter would make. This is both about learning the fundamentals of quilting, as much as it is understanding how to make the most of all the material used for quilting projects, down to the last tiny scrap!

Things we‘ll be learning:
Piecing a Quilt Block
Putting Together a Quilt Sandwich
Glue Basting
Strait Line / Free Motion Quilting
Making & Attaching Binding
Button Hole & Button Attachment

Class Requirements
Sewing Machine
If needed, some extra machines are available to rent from HOC. Please let us know if you will need one.
As many of your own notions (sewing tools) as you have
Fabric Scissors
Seem Ripper
Iron and Mat
Washable Elmers Glue or Basting Pins
Rotary Cutter and Mat
Quilting Ruler
Fabric Marker
Needle – Size: 75/11 or 80/12 for piecing and 90/14 for quilting
Walking Foot
Guild Bar
Materials – anything you want to use up from your own scraps? Bring it along!
If you do not have any, some will be provided.
Cotton fabric
Batting
Button
Color thread to match your scraps
Please bring one neutral colored thread for piecing even if you are not bringing your own scraps.
Knowledge (video suggestions)
Basic sewing machine functions: https://youtu.be/M1M7LA0ETQo?si=BW-EyJBo18ob9yHM
While it is not necessary to have done any quilting previously to take this class it is important that you have basic knowledge on how to use a sewing machine. If you need a quick refresh I recommend you watch this video. It is also recommended that you pull out your own sewing machine if it has been a while and get it cleaned and oiled up.
Difference Between Sewing and Quilting: https://youtu.be/DSl0BIVrRwE?si=Ga9-sFkIEDGTS5pj
While we will be touching on this during the class, having a basic understanding of the key differences between sewing and quilting is recommended prior to the class. Here is a link to a video that covers this.

This class will begin at 12pm so we ask that you arrive about 15 minutes early so we have enough time for everyone to set up before we get started.

Keep in mind that quilting is a marathon, not a sprint. It does take time, focus, patience and precision to complete a project. But with simple steps, one after the other, things begin to take shape until all the little pieces come together to make something beautiful.

political corruption

Submitted By: dwieb1@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Political corruption is out of control and guess who that harms? Apparently we the people are the last line of defense too.
I’ve long said mainstream national media is a waste, just selling commercial time and failing to be of service to the public. Nobody should be watching it (a serious boycott might change things). At the other end of the spectrum, getting news from social media or online videos is a great way to be misinformed. Local news is much better, even Portland’s Fox 12 channel. And many substacks (as Lucy often refers to) are doing a great job. That said, here are some relevant articles:

This year we will have members of the Coast Guard present to tell us the significance of each fold of the flag. Should be good.
