Wednesdays 8:30am (PT) for a Virtual Somatic Drop In

This Week Intention:

This week we will be exploring the various ways our bodies engage with the world. Often we are so mentally oriented. This week we will explore the various ways our body experiences our environment. Playing with image, sound, movement, sensation, and emotion- we will explore the world of the SOMA.

Come Learn and Play!

When: Wednesdays, 8:30 – 9:00 AM (PT)

Where: Virtual meeting

naropa.zoom.us/j/95704439451

Cost: $10–$20 via Venmo

Venmo Link Here

www.venmo.com/u/tenishastock

Website: somaticwholebeing.com

What is a Somatic Drop In?

Each week for half an hour I will be holding space and providing scaffolding for you to learn to tune into your body. Helping you develop your felt sense and orient to safety within your body first, then progressively learning to trust and engage with our somatic experience. Like learning a new language it takes time and practice.

Why?

Rituals are important. Rituals are developed to help us build connection and relationship. Developing a relationship with ourselves by re-membering the body in a culture consumed by the cognitive is essential. To feel a sense of unity we need to start with our own bodies. Developing TRUST here…in our own skin first.

Presenter: Russel Hargrave, Co-Founder, Great River Natural Burial.

Description
Nestled just outside the small town of Mosier, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge, the cemetery burial areas are interwoven with hiking trails and offer majestic mountain views of Hood, Adams, Defiance, and the Simcoe range. The panorama extends to the Columbia River and the Mosier Creek Valley and encompasses forests, sprawling orchards, and vineyards.

Presenter
Russell Hargrave lives with his wife and two children in Mosier, Oregon. He enjoys the outdoor life, his job, and raising a family. The land’s rugged beauty beckons him to the outdoors daily, as he and his brother did growing up on a small farm. However, when his younger brother died unexpectedly 10 years ago, he was unprepared for the grief. With the anguish from his brother’s death still palpable, Russell was faced with the question of where his mother, he, and his wife would be buried. After realizing they could continue to be a part of this beloved land, Russell became passionate about creating a lasting, natural place connecting the living and the dead. Russel Hargrave is President of the Cemetery Association of Oregon. Russell’s career includes extensive experience in leadership, innovation, and business, as well as working as an executive for high-technology companies and the state of Oregon. He is a successful entrepreneur, having co-founded two locally based companies.

Conscious Aging and Community Connections

Submitted By: cardoons@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Getting to Know You

The mission of Conscious Aging and Community Connections is to strengthen our community by helping each of us live our very best lives. Our recent programs have addressed a wide variety of serious and challenging topics around aging and end of life… from writing wills and advanced directives to fraud prevention, support for caregivers, fall prevention, and “what to say to someone who is dying”. These are serious and important topics.

However, we recognize that one of our most valuable offerings is not at all serious…. It’s just plain fun. You have told us that you enjoy our “getting to know you” sessions and asked for more….and it has been well documented that people who have strong community support live longer and happier lives. So, in the interest of community building, we try to sprinkle FUN in with the more serious topics.

We invite you to join us for our next “Getting to Know You” event on Monday, August 11th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Pine Grove. The goal is simply to get to know each other and have fun!

Oh wait, there’s homework!!!

· On a small piece of paper, very briefly write an activity or skill at which you excel and that enhances your self-esteem (e.g., “I bake excellent berry pies”). Fold for privacy and bring to the session.
· On another piece of paper, briefly note something unusual, or surprising about yourself, (quirky and amusing is a plus…and preferably something no one knows, or would guess) Fold for privacy and bring to the session.

Conscious Aging and Community Connections is a sponsored program of Pine Grove Community House. A suggested donation of $5 at the door supports facility upkeep and cleaning costs.

Manzanita Farmers Market Week 12: Friday 4-7

Submitted By: info@manzanitafarmersmarket.com – Click to email about this post
Summer is in full swing, and the market is abundant and busy!  Last week we counted 1500 visitors, with 900 of them arriving in the first hour.  It has been so fun to see the crowds arriving and interact with so many people in our community at this wonderful weekly event.  The layout this year is designed to support flow and community space, with a large food court/stage area, places for kids to play outside the main pathways, and a circular layout that encourages visitors to make circuits and spread themselves out over the market.  It’s been a really fun community gathering each week!

But I know some of you prefer to avoid the crowds. The market is busiest between 4 and 5, and slows down after that.  Now that summer is ON, more and more of the goodies you are looking for will be available later in the day.  There’s been mountains of peaches, fresh berries, corn, and smoked salmon.  There are more tomatoes every week, and cucumbers are in full production. My favorite approach is to go to market without a list, and just see what’s available and enticing.  Not sure how to use something you see?  Just ask the vendor, and they’ll be happy to give you some ideas!

Parking is also a little easier this year.  With construction finished, the new parking lot at the City Hall is open.  We’re also parking most vendor vehicles on site, so that opens up lots of parking around the market.

Music this week is by Duo Opelio.  See you Friday from 4-7 at 635 Manzanita Ave!

AUTHOR EVENT Saturday Aug 2

SATURDAY, AUG. 2, 6 PM, FREE EVENT, MANZANITA

Cloud & Leaf’s “Books After Hours” is offering chocolate, wine, and funky music in our wonderful little bookstore at the beach… and the opportunity to hear Miriam Gershow read from her newest book!

Miriam is the author of Survival Tips: Stories (Propeller Books), an Independent Publisher Book Awards and Pencraft Awards winner. Her debut novel, The Local News (Spiegel & Grau), was hailed as “unusually credible and precise” and “deftly heartbreaking” by The New York Times.

Her novel Closer, from Regal House, has just released to much acclaim and is, sadly, timely. “Set in 2015 during Obama’s presidency and Trump’s early candidacy, the tranquil college town of Horace, Oregon, is disrupted when white students taunt a Black student in the high school library. This incident sparks immediate repercussions that ripple through the community, affecting students, families, and faculty alike. “
