RIVERBEND PLAYERS AUDITIONS:

LARGE CAST NEEDED FOR UPCOMING COMEDY HOLIDAY PRODUCTION

We’re looking for actors of all experience levels who are ready to embrace big characters, holiday clichés, and a whole lot of comedy.

No need to bring a tree, cocoa, or a mysterious stranger from the big city, just bring your talent and your holiday spirit!

THE HOLIDAY CHANNEL CHRISTMAS MOVIE WONDERTHON, directed by Frank Squillo and written by Don Zolidis, is a hilarious spoof of the classic holiday TV movie formula (think Hallmark and Lifetime).

Set in a cozy inn during the Christmas season, the play follows six predictable yet intertwined love stories, filled with small-town charm, romantic misunderstandings, and holiday magic.

From a workaholic executive finding love to a secret prince hiding in plain sight, the show comically embraces every cliché, trope, and heartwarming twist of holiday movies.

With quick wit and festive spirit, this comedy celebrates and pokes fun at the feel-good holiday romances we all secretly love.

Primary Roles:

-Narrator 1 & Narrator 2: These two characters guide the audience through the intertwined stories with sarcastic and humorous commentary.

-Holly: The quintessential small-town inn owner with a heart of gold in Hopewood Falls, Vermont.

-Brett: A charming visitor who is secretly a prince from a fictional European country.

-Joy: A romance novelist struggling with writer’s block.

-Paul: A rival, and somewhat arrogant, romance novelist.

-Carol: A war reporter who has returned to her hometown for the holidays.

-Jackson: A local veterinarian and Carol’s love interest.

-Merry: A driven businessperson from the big city in search of the perfect Christmas tree.

-Blake: A ruggedly handsome Christmas tree farm owner.

-Kris: The son of the town’s former Santa Claus, who is hesitant to take up the family mantle.

-Noelle: The spirited owner of the local Christmas ornament shop.

-Sven: Another secret prince from a different fictional European nation.

-Rita: A famous movie star filming in town while in disguise.

-Bridgette: The sassy and supportive best friend to all the female leads.

Supporting Roles:

-Laertes: An evil real estate developer.

-Jimmy: The ex-boyfriend to several of the female characters.

-TSA Agent: A comedic minor role.

-Various other small roles that can be played by the ensemble to populate the town of Hopewood Falls.

Community Urged to Attend Public Hearing to Protect Nedonna Beach Wetlands from Development

Submitted By: Rhonda.nccwp@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) is calling on all concerned residents of the North Coast to attend an upcoming public hearing and voice support for safeguarding Nedonna Beach’s irreplaceable coastal wetlands.  Help prevent further development and establish  a precedent for protecting Oregon’s vital wetlands and drinking water sources.

The hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, September 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Rockaway Beach City Hall (276 S. Highway 101), will address the Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development application following a remand by the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). On one side, developers Nedonna Development LLC seek approval for the project’s second phase, while opponents, including NCCWP and the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition (represented by the Crag Law Center), argue it would destroy ecologically sensitive areas.

How to Provide Public Comment:

Written Comments may be submitted electronically by sending an email no later than 48 hours prior to the meeting to CityHall@Corb.us

In Person – sign-up sheet and instructions will be located on the table ouside of the meeting room.

Virtually on Zoom – use the “raise hand” feature when the Mayor announces it is time to do so.

These freshwater forested and shrub wetlands provide essential benefits, including flood and fire protection,  water filtration, carbon storage, and habitat for native plants and animals. They also filter contaminants to protect the shallow backup aquifer that supplements Rockaway Beach’s primary source of drinking water (Jetty Creek) in late summer when rainfall and streamflow are lowest.

Nedonna Beach is a sandy littoral wetland, modified by construction of the 1918 Nehalem River jetty and naturally accreted over decades. Bordered by wetlands on three sides and the ocean on the fourth, the aquifer serves as a DEQ-defined drinking water source, but with about 70% of local homes using septic systems and with damage from past draining, filling, and development, further development of the wetlands raises serious questions about the future safety and adequacy of the aquifer.

NCCWP, a nonprofit advocating for an end to logging and pesticide use in community drinking water sources regardless of ownership, works to ensure safe drinking water and clean air as public trust rights.

NCRD Aquatics Director Resignation

Submitted By: laura@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
To: NCRD Board of Directors, NCRD Staff, Friends, & Beloved Community,

Kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation as NCRD Aquatic Director on September 6, 2025. This decision was not made lightly.
It is only appropriate that I resign along with our cherished renaissance pool. We both are accomplished and resilient with historical significance.
The legendary Nehalem Pool leaves an indelible mark on our community. It is the light that guided us into the future and was the launching pad for the newly erected facility!
With this shift come changes, but let us not forget to honor its legacy and accomplished mission of teaching all the children in our community how to swim and be safe in and around the water.
I am incredibly grateful for the NCRD staff and our community for their trust and confidence while supporting my mission and vision throughout the years.
It has been my pleasure to serve our community. I have appreciated the reinforcement and inspiration from my colleagues and contemporaries.
As I reflect on my career as Aquatics Director, I am proud of the valuable accomplishment of my devoted service and accommodation to all our patrons.
To my coworkers past and present, you are the heart of the NCRD. I am endlessly proud of the work we have done together and I will always cherish the laughter, challenges, and triumphs we have shared.
In fulfilling my commitment to the School Swim Program and its educational value, I would like to continue in the capacity of instructor/consultant until a qualified candidate appears. I am a valuable resource, since I developed, created, and implemented the current School Swim & Water Safety program 35 years ago. My dedication to the program has been my life’s purpose and personal reward. It has been an honor to watch so many children find their confidence in the water and to celebrate these milestones in and out of the pool.
The generations of families who have benefited from the School Swim and Water Safety program is our Grand Prize……Mission Accomplished!
The new pool facility is an exciting trajectory into another 100 years of NCRD continuing its outstanding purpose as an esteemed organization for all! I am confident that it will succeed.
I am committed to a smooth transition and will do my best to help where needed.
I will remain a familiar face at the new pool, enjoying it alongside all of you.
Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be part of your lives. This is not goodbye—-it is just a new lane I will be swimming in.
I can let go……the water will still flow……And so will I……

With love and gratitude.
