In preparation for closing down the clothing bank at North County Food Bank, we need to stop taking donations. July 15 will be the last day we can take used clothes. We are still accepting food donations.

Censorship in Manzanita?

Submitted By: barbaraandchuck@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Here’s a story from the Tillamook County Pioneer that describes how an entry in the Fourth of July parade of was deemed too political. The entry–people dressed as the Statue of Liberty, one with a sash that said “Protect the Constitution” and one with the word “Choice” on the crown.

Have we truly come to this? We were supposed to be celebrating our Independence. This censorship is not that. My heart is even heavier as the consequences of the destruction of our American ideals comes to our community.

Come one, come all. Kids and big kids too. We are celebrating the Building of the Salmonberry Trail in Wheeler. Come make a hat and hiking stick at Heart of Cartm at 1pm. At 2 we will line up and PARADE to the Waterfront Park for a celebration marking history in creating a safe walking, hiking and biking trail next to the railway.

This trail has been a long planned resource to get walkers and bilkers off of our Highways and onto a safe path of travel.

It is a beginning of the 82 mile trail that will stretch from the Tillamook Creamery up the coast to Wheeler, then turn inland to traverse the coast range, connect with the Banks Vernonia Trail, and finally into Banks.

Come join in the fun and frivolity. Family fun and celebration. The event details are as follows:

When: Saturday, July 12th, 1pm to 5pm
What: Free Family Fun

Music, Scavenger Hunts, History Talks, Prizes, Vendors, Tour a Train Engine, Yard games, and more.
