Quaker silent reflection

Submitted By: aquietplace@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
A new Quaker Worship Group (unprogrammed silent meeting) has begun gathering at 5 PM on Wednesdays at St Catherine Church (between Hope Chest and The Bunkhouse on Hwy 101).
We gather in a circle, listen to a short reading from a Quaker source, and then worship in silence for about 45 minutes. The point of this practice is not the silence itself, but the listening through the silence. Everyone welcome. We are a small, welcoming group.

Bill Supak stained-glass window for sale

Submitted By: babbles@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
hi all in bbq-land,

this is a Bill Supak window that was for sale at Manzanita News & Espresso.

i bought it for remembrance of Bill and the 25+ years he graced the windows of MNE with his beautiful stained-glass art.

it didn’t fit well into the only possible window in my house. when there was a sale of the residual of Bill’s work from his studio, i bought a smaller window that fits much better.

i would like to sell the first one i bought. it measures 29″ high by 22″ wide, and hangs vertically (i had to hang it horizontally in my triangular window and it just didn’t look right). i am asking $325 for it, exactly what i paid for it.

please reply to email address, or to my home phone where you can leave a message. either way, please leave me an email address so i can send you a picture.

om peace namaste

NCCWP MONTHLY MEETING TOMORROW NIGHT IN ROCKAWAY BEACH

Submitted By: Rhonda.nccwp@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Tomorrow night please consider attending the next NCCWP general membership meeting at 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday, October 28, at the St. Mary by the Sea Parish Hall – 275 S. Pacific Street in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. ALL ARE WELCOME. The meeting will focus on the following three topics:

1. The City of Rockaway Beach FEMA Pre-Implementation Compliance Measures Hearing
* Scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, at 6:00 pm at Rockaway Beach City Hall
* Updates to the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan are proposed. The City’s current proposal is the least protective of any of the options to protect the flood hazard areas and wetlands
* Asking for NCCWP members to provide written and oral testimony
* Templates for oral and written testimony will be developed and provided to members

2. Film: Award-Winning Documentary “The People vs. Agent Orange” to be shown in Tillamook on Saturday, November 8. Free admission.
On November 8, the powerful and eye-opening documentary “The People vs. Agent Orange” will be screened, bringing attention to one of the most toxic legacies of war and corporate power. The event will take place at the main branch of the Tillamook County Library, 1716 3rd Street in Tillamook, Oregon beginning at 1:00 p.m. (Doors open at 12:30 p.m.)

“The People vs. Agent Orange,” directed by Alan Adelson and Kate Taverna, follows the decades-long fight of two extraordinary women—Vietnamese activist Tran To Nga and American Carol Van Strum—as they battle to hold the chemical industry accountable for the devastation caused by the toxic pesticide Agent Orange.

Used extensively during the Vietnam War, components of which are still sprayed domestically for forestry and agricultural purposes, Agent Orange has left a trail of environmental destruction and human suffering across generations. The film is a poignant investigation into corporate deception, government neglect, and the resilience of communities fighting back.

Following the screening, a panel discussion with Carol Van Strum and Susan Swift will offer the audience an opportunity to engage with environmental activists, scientists, and local advocates who continue the fight for justice and environmental accountability.

3. Update on Nedonna Wave Development
Though the Rockaway Beach City Council voted unanimously to deny the Nedonna Wave developer’s application during the September 9 hearing, the applicant had the option of appealing that decision to the State of Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). The applicant filed that appeal on October 23. We are now in contact with LUBA, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition, and Crag Law Center to determine our next steps. We will have up-to-date information at the meeting. Meanwhile  beavers and frogs stand alert.

In addition, NCCWP is engaged in the following:

On Thursday, October 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Wild Salmon Center’s “Forest, Fish and Ales” event will take place in Astoria at the Fort George Brewery (Lovell Room). The Wild Salmon Center will be buying the first drink for the first 50 attendees.

Oregon Department of Forestry – Forest Management Plan: This is the “mothership” of forest practices in Oregon and a good opportunity to ask for language to be included that will protect all drinking water sources from logging and pesticides. The formal rulemaking process begins Saturday, November 1. The public comment period will run from November 1 to January 31.  Four public hearings are scheduled for January. The first will be a virtual hearing (January 13), the second will be in Forest Grove (January 15), the third will be in Tillamook (January 20), and the fourth will be in Eugene (January 22). We are concerned that a hearing has not been scheduled for Astoria. All meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. More details will be sent out once the rulemaking filing is completed. ODF plans to hold an informational meeting for interested parties to hear more about the FMP and ask questions prior to the hearings.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to NCCWP.  You can donate by check or online via debit or credit card by visiting: healthywatershed.org/donate/.

NCCWP wants no more logging and pesticide use in community water sources regardless of who owns the land, and wants an end to pesticide applications near where people live, work and recreate. Safe drinking water and clean air are part of the public trust that we all are entitled to have. Please help North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection safeguard and restore our drinking watersheds. www.healthywatershed.org | www.facebook.com/
