North Oregon Coast Symphony presents Peter and the Wolf

Submitted By: sdawagner@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2022-2023 season with two concerts in March. This orchestra, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson, is an ensemble of North Coast musicians offering live classical music in local venues. Titled “Playful Inspirations”, the afternoon concerts will feature Serge Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”. This classic children’s tale set to music is the perfect form for introducing young people to the various orchestral instruments, as each character in the story is represented by a musical “voice.” The narrator will be Liz Cole, an award-winning stage and TV actor (“Seinfeld”, “Star Trek”, “ER”) who now lives in Manzanita.
The program will begin with Peter and the Wolf, and children (with adult supervision) are encouraged to attend. Admission is free for children 12 and under. Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.
Other highlights of the concerts include a Vivaldi guitar piece performed by Jim Achilles, and solo piano pieces by Bach and Beethoven performed by Diane Amos. The balance of the program will feature full orchestral works by Mendelssohn, Rossini, and Beethoven.
The first concert will take place on Saturday, March 11, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door only for this concert.
The second concert will be on Sunday, March 12, at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (588 16th St., Astoria, OR) beginning at 3 pm. Tickets will be sold online and at the door for this concert. To purchase tickets online, visit LarsenCenter.org., or by phone at 503-338-9132.
Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, $5 students, and children 12 and under (with adult supervision) free.

Need caregiver for senior

Submitted By: Jennyred78@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi everyone. My family is new to Nehalem and I’m looking for a caregiver/cna/rn for a very occasional side gig of looking after a senior. My mom is bedridden and we take care of her in home and can only leave her alone for very short periods of time. Very occasionally (a few times a year) my husband and I need some time to attend events together and are looking for someone who could be in the home with Mom. Duties would mainly be just to be nearby, getting drinks and food for her. Less likely duties could include helping her roll onto a bedpan, emptying of a catheter bag. Please contact me if you are or know someone who might be able fill this need. Texts are welcome. 541-588-0947 Thank you!

Welcoming back Mindfulness Meditation!

Submitted By: bark@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
WELCOME TO MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Mindfulness has become almost a household word these days, but it comes from a 2,600yr. old tradition. It has endured and grown because it is a simple and useful tool for living skillfully in our increasingly complex world. Research in neuroscience is now showing proof that we can improve our quality of life and sense of well being using these tools.
As a long time practitioner and certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, I am delighted to offer a six week series of classes exploring the roots and useful tools of this ancient practice.
I welcome your calls or emails if you have questions or are interested in joining us for a six week series of classes on Mondays at 5:00p.m., beginning March 6th.
We’ll meet at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Nehalem to share the silence, explore the teachings and learn the techniques
of this time honored tradition.
Thanks for your interest,
Lark Miller 503-368-2627 bark@nehalemtel.net
