PROTEST in Nehalem
See you tomorrow and don’t give up!

Dance with us – Sunday 12/28 at 11am
We’ve just passed the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. Come dance the energy of crossing a threshold. We are nearing the end of the Year of the Snake (Chinese astrology). Come dance the energy of a snake shedding its skin. We are nearing the end of a “9” year (Numerology 2+0+2+5) -known as a year of completion. Come dance the energy of going through a portal. What wants to, needs to, demands to, be left behind? The energy of endings, of walking through doorways that you can no longer return through, of karmic closure, of releasing, of sloughing off, of moving forward into your truest self and your truest purpose is everywhere right now. I am feeling this SO INTENSELY. You? Let us come together and help move it along. Let’s find what is stuck or numb or congealed in our bodies and loosen it, return it to flow and let it go. We are right on time.

North County Resistance-Last of 2025!
Make your voice heard in 2025!
PROTEST in Nehalem
Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 27, 2025. On this day, a protest will take place in downtown Nehalem from noon to 2 PM. Residents and concerned citizens are invited to participate and make their voices heard.
Call to Action
The North County Resistance is organizing this event, urging community members to join together and speak out. The demonstration is in response to ongoing projects and policies promoted by President Trump, which have seen rising opposition among Americans. Many feel that as these new initiatives progress, valuable programs and individuals deserving recognition are being overlooked.
Legislative Inaction
Despite increasing public dissent regarding President Trump’s policies, these measures continue to advance. One major reason for this persistence is the lack of decisive action from legislators in both major political parties—Democrats and Republicans. Their reluctance to take a firm stand has contributed to the continuation of these policies. This situation highlights the importance of citizen involvement and the need to demand accountability from elected officials.
Reasons for Protest
The protests in Nehalem serve as a call for legislative courage—urging lawmakers to stand up and speak out, just as demonstrators are doing. Concerns include the presence of ICE, which is described as cruel and unwelcome both in Oregon and throughout the United States. Additional issues raised by organizers include opposition to foreign interventions, such as proposed actions in Venezuela and Greenland, and the belief that resources should be focused on addressing domestic challenges. These challenges include cuts to educational programs, food insecurity, homelessness, and the lack of affordable health care. The protest seeks to draw attention to these issues and advocates for meaningful change.
Bring your neighbors, your company, your families of all ages to join us on Saturday. Come for the full two hours or for as long as you can. Churches, civic groups, arts organizations, architects, attorneys, car technicians, bakers, banks, bars, beauty salons, bed & breakfasts, building trades, book store employees, lumber companies, restaurants, vacation rentals, relators, thrift shops, carpet cleaners, telephone companies, grocery store workers, tax preparers, surveyors, storage companies, service station attendees, school teachers, mental health providers, roofing contractors, restaurant workers, post office employees, bus drivers, pizza makers, physicians and surgeons, retirees…you get the message. If it hasn’t already happened, Trump and his gang will be in your pocket very soon and you’re not going to like it!
Long underwear and several layers of clothing is suggested. A hat and gloves will provide more comfort. Bundle up as we want to see you out there again in 2026! Thanks to everyone who has participated. We need to show we are not giving up! Don’t give up!
Thank you, Barbara and BBQ!
Thanks,
Patty

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from North County Recreation District!
This year was one of growth, change, and major milestones. Most notably, we were proud to open the doors to our new Aquatic Center, a long-awaited project made possible through years of community support, partnerships, and belief in the importance of accessible recreation, health, and wellness. Seeing families, seniors, youth, and visitors enjoying the pool has been a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
Beyond the Aquatic Center, this year was filled with programs, events, and moments that brought people together, whether through recreation, fitness, art, youth activities, or simply having a welcoming place to gather. Your patience during transitions, your encouragement of our staff, and your continued participation helped make this year a success.
We are deeply grateful for the trust you place in us and for the role we get to play in supporting the quality of life in our community. None of this would be possible without the support of our residents, partners, volunteers, and local leaders.
From all of us at North County Recreation District, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a safe, healthy, and exciting New Year. We look forward to continuing to grow, serve, and build community together in 2026.
Justin Smith
Executive Director

WITH GRATITUDE: A COMMUNITY THANK YOU FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE HOLIDAY WONDERTHON!
Dear Cast, Crew, Volunteers, Sponsors, Advertisers, NCRD, and Our Incredible Community,
As the curtain closed yesterday on THE HOLIDAY CHANNEL CHRISTMAS MOVIE WONDERTHON, I want to take a moment, on behalf of Riverbend Players Community Theater, to say thank you!
This production was something truly special.
Because of the talent on stage, the dedication behind the scenes, and the overwhelming support from our audiences, THE HOLIDAY CHANNEL CHRISTMAS MOVIE WONDERTHON broke both attendance and box office revenue records and is now the most attended production in Riverbend Players’ history, beating out the previous record holder, A CHRISTMAS STORY, from two years ago.
That distinction belongs to every actor, set designer, stage manager, stage hand, lighting and audio operator, volunteer, and patron who showed up, leaned in, laughed loudly, and made this experience unforgettable.
From the first rehearsal to the final bow, this show was powered by collaboration, generosity, flexibility, and a shared sense of joy. The cast brought heart, humor, and fearless commitment. The crew and volunteers worked tirelessly to make the magic seamless. And our community filled the house night after night, reminding us exactly why local theater matters.
I also want to briefly acknowledge the generosity shown through our charity raffle. Together, we raised $5,520 to support the North County Food Bank and the Nehalem Bay Community Services food pantry. The whole story of that effort will be shared separately, but please know how meaningful that impact truly is.
Riverbend Players exists because of people who believe in creativity, connection, and community, and this production was a shining example of all three!
Thank you for your time, your talent, your trust, and your support. This was a milestone moment for our theater group, and I am deeply grateful to have shared it with all of you.
With pride and appreciation,
Frank Squillo
Director, The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon
President, Riverbend Players Community Theater
