Wow, another great attic find from Wheeler Marina. Will it ever stop? This Lionel Train set Includes 20+ track pieces, 5 train cars and an engine car. Check out that keen Chevy pickup and horse trailer. Every boy’s dream toy of the 50’s can be your dream toy now! (We had to toss the plug-in that made it ‘go’ as the wiring was a potential fire hazard). That being said, this project is for the train enthusiast who likes to tinker with electronics. $75.00. American Beauty China Reduced Price

This lovely china set needs to be on someone else’s holiday table, not mine, lol. Price reduced to $100.

Perhaps one of Royal Albert’s most beautiful patterns, this set of American Beauty was purchased by my Canadian grandmother in the 1940s from the famous British maker of bone china, Royal Albert. It is in excellent condition, having been used only for the most formal dinners — Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, etc. Gradually, through the 1940s and 1950s, special pieces were added to the basic set.

There are 8 dinner plates (which Replacements Ltd. sells for $40 each!), 7 bread-and-butter plates, 6 fruit/dessert bowls; a mini-creamer, mini-sugar bowl and their tray; a sandwich tray ($70 on Replacements!); a 13-inch oval serving platter; 4 dessert-plus-cup combo plates; a 7-inch relish/sweet meat (candy) dish; a 4-3/4-inch square sweet meat dish; 11 Countess-style cups and 11 saucers (the cups also fit the dessert plates). I also have the teapot with lid, no flower on spout, which Replacements is selling for $225. The topknot on the lid has been glued back in place, so this is not a perfect piece like the others.

All of the above for $100.

Hello Community,
Full disclosure here, I am invested in NCRD.

For 42 years, I have served or participated as a volunteer, instructor, and member. During the 70’s, I enjoyed lap swimming, teaching aqua aerobics and life guarding. In the 80’s I was one of the first volunteers for the newly formed Nehalem Bay Center gym. I was on the 20-year Vision Plan Committee in the 90’s and am currently on the budget committee. Throughout, I have participated in children’s events, gym, yoga and fitness classes – so many fitness classes.

This gives me the unique perspective of someone who has been involved in some capacity for an extended period. I have seen the facility go through many changes, from under the direction of the school district to TBCC and the Nehalem Bay Center and finally the organization we have today. I’ve witnessed the ups concerning our facility and feared the downs for our community.

In recent years, I’ve been impressed with the board’s determination and ability to show growth. Along with this growth comes rising costs. Yet despite rising costs, the tax levy on the November ballot does not ask for an increase in operational tax but remains as it was some15 years ago!

I’d like to address the cut back on the elementary school swim program. It’s true the school district has cut back its swim program for this year. That doesn’t mean the cut back will continue into next year or the following years. I urge you to consider the whole picture, with an emphasis on the future.

A final note: Because I support the tax levy, does NOT mean I disregard others whose experiences have gone poorly. I have no doubt there have been some valid concerns over the years. With any organization, there are failings. We are human – humans are imperfect- we can learn from our mistakes. Do we strip down an organization valued and utilized by so many? No, we move forward, learn from those mistakes and rectify to the best of our ability.

Vote YES on the 5-year Optional Tax Levy for General Operations for NCRD.

Conscious Aging and Community Connections

Hello Community Friends,

It was wonderful to meet and hear from the 35 community members who attended our first session, Oct. 9 at Pine Grove Community House. Attendees shared heartfelt thoughts and feelings about life in our community, conscious living and what they are most passionate about at this time in their lives.

Attendees also let us know which topics they would like to have us cover in upcoming months. Based on that, at our next session, Monday, November 13, 2-4pm, we’ll hold a conversation about two related popular topics: How to Live Our Best Possible Lives and Finding and Living Your Passion in Late Life. Before then we’ll be in touch with possible questions to ponder.

Here are some of the other topics we plan to feature with conversations, or led by experts on the subject, at our second Monday of the month sessions:

November Artist of the Month

Friday November 3rd from 5 – 7pm at the Bay City Arts Center, November Artist of the Month upstairs gallery will feature work by local watercolor artist, Vlada Clooten. The main floor gallery will feature a diverse range of artwork from the collection of John and Janet Stahl. This monthly event is free and open to the public.

Vlada Clooten was born and raised in a small rural and remote area in Russia half a century ago and was surrounded by quiet and colorful meadows and rolling hills that caught her eye from a young age. She has been drawing, doodling and painting since six years old on almost everything that had a flat hard surface. In 2021, life took Vlada to the Oregon coast. She was completely blown away by the vivid beauty of the Pacific ocean and breathtaking mountains! The inspiration and unlimited desire to paint again after a long break took over, especially this summer of 2023. Watercolor became her almost everyday companion. “I would like to share my work with you, my unknown audience, and I very much hope you will enjoy my watercolor in November this year.”

When my husband and I moved to Nehalem five years ago, one of the first places we visited in the community was the North County Recreation District. We stopped by to see what the NCRD was and received a tour of the building from a staff member. We were immediately impressed with both the history of NCRD and the comprehensive community offerings.

We have a special community here, and NCRD is a big part of that. NCRD offers beneficial programs for the entire spectrum of life from preschool classes for the young to swim lessons for school children, fitness programs for all ages and community-building activities for seniors. All contributing to the overall quality of life for North County people.

Please join me in supporting the NCRD five-year levy on the November ballot. Help preserve this valued community resource. Vote yes for NCRD.
