Ellen is known for her astonishing vocals as she gracefully moves among genres from blues to jazz. She’ll be joined by bassist Gene Houck, and singer and keyboardist Jean-Pierre Garau — each having their own impressive résumés.
This trio performs in a ‘songwriters-in-the-round’ style, taking turns presenting a variety of R&B, jazz and rock influenced covers and original music — seasonal selections, too — that showcases their musicianship, unique vocals and rich harmonies. This will be their first appearance at NCRD!
Get ready for some “Heart Rockin’ Music” with Ellen Whyte and her band!
Saturday, March 30th, 2024, 7 pm at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem.

Loneliness and Aging: Making Space for Our Elders
with Pamela Slaughter
Loneliness and isolation are common experiences for older people, especially for those who do not have nearby family members or who are not computer literate.
What do you know about the elders in your life or in your neighborhood?
Are they connected to their families in an enriching way?
Do they belong to a caring community of some kind?
What can you do, or are you currently doing to avoid isolation and loneliness?
This conversation is for older adults and people who live near elders or have older adults in their lives. We’ll explore questions, experiences, and obstacles to showing up for elderly people and to generate ideas for connection.
Facilitator Pamela Slaughter is a lifelong Oregonian with varied interests. She retired from her career as an adult protective service investigator for Multnomah County, where she saw firsthand how devastating loneliness and isolation can be. Pamela is the founder and executive director of People of Color Outdoors, a nonprofit designed to help facilitate the reconnection of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to the outdoors. She is the author of the children’s book Hi! My Name is Robin!, published in 2020, which she hopes will encourage families to bird watch together.
The goal of the Conscious Aging and Community Connections Program is to bring people together, to get to know one another at a deeper level and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives. The Conscious Aging and Community Connections Program is held on the second Monday of each month from 2 to 4 PM.
This program is sponsored by Pine Grove Community House which allows us to keep admission at $5 per session. All money received goes directly to Pine Grove.

Thanks.

Parents of two friends of mine were exposed to COVID and died over the last month.
Diseases don’t go away because we stop thinking about them.
Ever since the vaccine against Smallpox successfully saved the life of a child in 1796, humans have had an extremely effective tool against diseases.
Measles, polio, you name them.
Get vaccinated, get your family vaccinated.
Be part of the solution, not the problem.
