NTLF Art in the Library series presents the works of local artist Brian Postle for the month of June in the Manzanita Library. Brian shares: “After visiting Manzanita for 25 years with my husband Pete, we retired here three years ago. Manzanita has always been our go-to place in the world. I’m a beginner in so many ways as I enter into this new stage of life, consciously not knowing. I feel so grateful for the relationships I am developing, and being surrounded by so much wonderful art and so many accomplished artists; and of course our beautiful and challenging environment.”

Our second annual mini music fest, Nest Fest 2024 is confirmed for July 7th 12-10pm. We are permitted, branded and tickets are now officially on sale.

SYMPHONY CONCERTS JUNE 8 & 9

The North Oregon Coast Symphony concludes its 2023-2024 season with two concerts in June. Titled “Poetic Palette”, this series offers a variety of classical pieces from multiple composers. Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra by Max Bruch features two soloists, clarinetist Braden Payne (in his final performance with NOCS) and principal violist Betsey Ellerbroek. Other selections include Offenbach’s Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Berlioz’s Hungarian March, the symphonic poem In The Forest (Miske) by Ciurlionis, and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia.

The first concert will take place on Saturday, June 8, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101, Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

The second concert will be on Sunday, June 9, at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (588 16th St., Astoria, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

Admission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for the Nehalem concert.
Tickets for the Astoria concert will be sold online at LarsenCenter.org or by phone at 503 338 9132. Cookies and refreshments will be available at both concerts during intermission, and NOCS scholarships for graduating seniors will be announced.

This non-profit orchestra, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson, brings together musicians from the north Oregon and south Washington coast to perform classical music for local audiences. For more information, please visit the the NOCS website nocsymphony.org.

Hello Tri- Villagers!
We are paying tribute to the service of our 60+ year old dining TABLES, utilized by members of our
community, and beyond, by retiring them.
Yes, these old warriors have participated in birthday parties, weddings, family reunions, meetings,
dances, and other countless events over the years. Families and friends have also gathered together
for celebrations of life, for many beloved residents of our Nehalem Valley, and beyond, in this pioneer
Hall.
But now we feel the time has arrived to usher in a new era of culinary experience at our Grange Hall. As the old adage goes “They have paid for themselves many times over.”
We, at the Grange, have chosen to send out an appeal to all the people, who over the years, have
enjoyed sitting at our 60+ year old friends, to assist us in procuring new dining apparatus, by generously coming together to replace the old(er) with new 8’ TABLES.
New, modern (and easier to move and set up) TABLES set us back around $200 each. To go together (halvsies?) with a friend, or local business to purchase one would be VERY helpful! Heck, we could even inscribe, with a Sharpie, your initials on the underside so your generosity will live on in Grange infamy!!
Also, they would very effectively complement our new more comfortable chairs recently purchased, by the Grange, for the enjoyment of community members participating in gatherings. Thank you, Grange member Constance, for locating, transporting these new chairs, and also the community support!
Seriously, the old stallions are showing their age – aren’t we all? They are heavy, cumbersome to move, and literally falling apart. Time to put ‘em out to pasture so to speak!

May 30th NCCWP Community Meeting

This coming Thursday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m., North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection will be holding another of its regular “last Thursday of the month” grassroots, public meetings at the St. Mary by the Sea Parish Hall; 275 S. Pacific St.; Rockaway Beach, Oregon. This meeting is open to all those interested in the proposed acquisition of the Jetty Creek Watershed by the City of Rockaway Beach. That watershed is the sole source of surface drinking water for Rockaway Beach. To provide citizen input, the City has formed the Source Water Protection Plan Development Advisory Committee, composed of five people who drink the water from Jetty Creek. Though not part of the SWPPDAC, NCCWP hopes to help shape the discussion by providing constructive feedback to the committee members, as well as making clear what are our goals for the acquisition of the watershed.
Everyone who drinks the water from Jetty Creek, as well as everyone else concerned about protecting watersheds that provide their drinking water, is invited and encouraged to attend. Thanks to everyone who attended the meeting last month. This month, one of the subjects that will be addressed is landslides. There will be a short training session on the use of the State of Oregon SLIDO maps. (SLIDO is an acronym for Statewide Landslide Information Database for Oregon.)
Here are some other topics that may be addressed at the meeting: (1) What questions should communities be asking about their drinking water sources and how they are managed?; (2) What concerns may there be regarding surface water sources, such as Jetty Creek, and groundwater sources, such as the wells the City of Rockaway Beach uses under the Nedonna Beach neighborhood?
Everyone has a right to abundant clean and safe drinking water. This is a basic human right. Please join us this Thursday, May 30, at St. Mary by the Sea to learn about, and discuss, these important issues. (This will be an “in-person”meeting, but it will also be available on Zoom for those unable to attend.)

Hello. Friends of North County Recreation District (NCRD) need your help. The Mission Statement of Friends reads as follows: To support NCRD programs and projects through promotion, fundraising, and providing scholarships to encourage inclusion for all. Friends of NCRD has a fundraiser coming up for the 4th of July and we need some volunteers to help us with this fundraiser. We’re asking early as we know families get busy this time of year. This fundraiser will be selling hats, necklaces, garlands, banners, and such-nothing that goes bang or boom. We are going to start selling on Friday, June 28 and sell through July 4. This is a Friday-Thursday event. The morning shift goes from 9 am-1 pm. The afternoon shift goes from 1 pm-6 pm. If you can help with any of these shifts, or any part of a shift, please give me a call, Patty, 503-368-6081 and leave a message and I will get back to you. Coaster Theatre Kidz Summer Camp Registration Now Open

The Coaster Theatre Playhouse will offer Coaster Theatre Kidz Summer Camp: “Charlie Brown is Broadway Bound” July 22 through 26.

Coaster Theatre Kidz Camps focus on common aspects of theatre arts: acting, singing, and dancing. Visual arts and writing components are also offered. In addition to improving confidence and creativity, campers are exposed to teamwork, respect, and unlimited imagination while creating a show and characters of their own.

The theme of the 2024 summer camp “Charlie Brown is Broadway Bound” will focus on self-affirmation, kindness, and friendship. Campers will explore a mashup of the Peanuts characters and Broadway tunes.

Camp will be from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26. A community performance is planned for July 26 at 3 p.m.

The Coaster Theatre Kidz Camp is available to students ages 8 through 12 or grades three through six. This year’s $250 tuition is covered by the Cannon Beach Community grant. The application for the 2024 summer camp can be downloaded from the theatre’s website at coastertheatre.com

I have a LIMITED number of some raw Pumpkin Blossom honey in quart jars (ONLY in that size) – they are $32 each – and raw Meadowfoam honey in PINT jar size (only) – which are $18 each.
I’ll be in north Tillamook County – and Cannon Beach in the early afternoon of Tuesday, June 4th to deliver these items (this is not a “pop-up” or a “meet-up” – I am delivering to home or office addresses).
