Christmas is 22 days away! Come pick up a beautiful celebration tree for Christmas, Hanukkah, or Yule! These were grown by an OG tree farmer out in Mollala. They are stunning! We’ve got all sizes from 2ft-7ft! We’ll be on the lot at the corner of Manzanita & Division in Manzanita from 2-6pm on Friday with a bonfire, and 12-5pm Saturday & Sunday. Seeking an Art Studio to rent. Looking for a space to work on a collection of painted portraits and oral history interviews of local, community members for a project that needs to be completed in 2025.
It would be amazing if the space also was capable of hosting art classes for children and adults: I am starting an arts education non-profit in order to bring more arts opportunities to the North Coast and am in need of a space to work and provide classes.
Please let me know if you know of any spaces in Nehalem, Manzanita, or Wheeler that could work for this venture. Or if you have a room/space/garage in your house that would work for these purposes.

SAVE OUR WETLANDS! – SUPPORT THE APPEAL!
Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 pm: Rockaway Beach City Council Meeting.
Please attend the upcoming City Council meeting where council members will vote on whether or not to support the appeal filed by Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition against the proposed Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development (PUD-24). During the November 20th City Council hearing, a decision was made to defer the vote until the meeting on December 11. North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection is urging all community members to attend and make it clear that we prioritize the protection of our wetlands over allowing a developer to profit at the expense of our environment.
City Council meetings take place at Rockaway Beach City Hall; 276 Hwy 101; Rockaway Beach, Oregon. To attend by Zoom go to corb.us for more information. NCCWP extends sincere thanks to all those who contributed written and oral comments in support of the appeal. We also express our gratitude to the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and the Crag Law Center for their invaluable guidance and legal support. The Public Hearing is now officially closed, meaning no further evidence, arguments, or testimony can be submitted to the City Council. However, it is still crucial to continue supporting the appeal. We encourage you to attend the upcoming meeting on December 11th, engage in discussions with neighbors and friends, share information on social media, and write letters to the media to keep the momentum going.

Manzanita’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting party will be held this Friday, December 6th from 4 to 6 p.m.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue Big Rig, and the Neahkahnie Choir will sing songs of the season.
Holiday DJ, cookies, and warm beverages will also be provided.

Biden’s Farewell Address

Just a response to Dixie Gainer’s abridged post of Ron Paul’s opinion piece on the authorization to use US weapons and technology to strike targets proximate to the Russian border (within 250 miles or so). Now we are also seeing some American air support for rebels trying to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.
First let me acknowledge that Ms Gainer has many times demonstrated her fealty to what one might call the traditional Republican Party, the party that would be familiar to those in their mid-30s and older. I never supported that GOP, but it did have some reassuring qualities. I’ll simply assert here that that party no longer exists and has been replaced by something far darker.
Now about the Pauls. Both former Congressman Ron and current Senator Rand are proponents of the so-called Libertarian movement, an incomplete philosophy that strove for maximum liberty, minimum government, and no responsibility being placed on the wealthy/powerful who benefit maximally from the society created by every citizen (the commonweal). Libertarianism is now not much liked across the political spectrum except for the Silicon Valley/tech-bro community such as Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Peter Thiel, J.D. Vance, Larry Ellison, etc. who have rebranded it as “techno-utopianism.”
More important for this conversation, the Pauls are known to be emphatic supporters of (if not agents for) Russia. The quiet part has been said out loud, many time over the years. This has been a very noticeable trend in the GOP for years (google: Maria Butina) and now shapes Donald Trump’s policy toward Russia (google: Helsinki Summit). Thus I won’t ascribe much trustworthiness to anything either Paul says. And I’ll also assert here that the above-mentioned tech-bros have more connection with Russia than we should be comfortable with (google: Musk calls Putin regularly).
Biden’s recent authorization to use US weapons across the Ukraine border IS troubling. But the US and NATO have resisted this for three years as the Russians carried on an aerial war of obliteration largely against civilian targets in Ukraine. Russia and Syria worked this same game plan in Syria as Assad obliterated nearly the entire city of Aleppo over the years. Same game plan in Grozny, Chechnya. Where do we draw lines? It’s pretty clear where the once and future President and his captured GOP will draw them.

ASTORIA, OR – The Lewis & Clark National Park Association is thrilled to announce a delightful guest author event: Children’s Story Time with Arline LaMear. This free event will take place on December 15th, 2024, at 2 PM in the Netul River Room of the Visitor Center at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.
Join us for an afternoon of storytelling as Arline LaMear reads from their enchanting books, “The Astoria Cats” and “Where Does the River Start?” Attendees can look forward to an intermission featuring fun crafts and complimentary snacks. Additionally, autographed copies of LaMear’s books will be available for purchase at the Lewis & Clark National Park Association’s bookstore.
“The Astoria Cats” offers a whimsical retelling of Astoria’s rich history through the eyes of charming feline characters, making it an engaging experience for young readers. In “Where Does the River Start?”, children will follow the adventures of two lovable dogs, Scruffy and Scout, as they explore the origins of the Columbia River in British Columbia. This event promises to captivate fans of both cats and dogs alike!
Arline LaMear brings a wealth of experience to this event, having served as both mayor and city councilor of Astoria. With a background as a research librarian at the Columbia River Maritime Museum and a school librarian in Virginia, LaMear is passionate about transforming complex topics into enjoyable narratives for children.

Helping Hands Opening 40 More Beds in Shelter

Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers to Open 40 More Beds in Tillamook County.
The Tillamook Hope Center at the Jason Gooding Campus will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 10, 2024 to celebrate the expansion and give community partners a tour.
As the homelessness crisis in Oregon continues to grow, Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers is about to expand its capacity to serve the people who need it most with an additional forty beds in Tillamook County. The Tillamook Hope Center has been operating on the first floor of the Tillamook Naval Headquarters Building since 2015. Thanks to a partnership with Columbia Pacific CCO, Helping Hands was able to renovate the second floor to add an additional forty beds, while still maintaining the historic integrity of the building. On December 10, 2024 at 12:00pm, Helping Hands will be officially opening the addition and will have times for the members of the public to come and tour the facility at 1:30pm and 2:30pm.
Key Highlights about the Tillamook Hope Center:
In 2023, 18,778 meals were served here.
Helping Hands is on track to serve more individuals in 2024 than in 2023.
52% of people staying at the Tillamook Hope Center last year were chronically unhoused.
The fastest growing populations served are mothers with children and senior citizens.

The Grand Opening of the expansion of the Tillamook Hope Center will be an opportunity to learn more about what services and resources are available for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the community. He was removed from an abusive home and sent to foster care at age 11, but when his circumstances didn’t improve, he ran away and was homeless and addicted by age 13. We need to be sure that everybody that loves handmade Christmas items has a chance to see what we’ve made this year.

First of all there are beautiful evergreen centerpieces that will go really fast so come early…..

And plan to stay for Clam Chowder/Pie lunch that starts at 11:00. You can eat there and/or take a quart of chowder home to enjoy later.

Then there’s the bake shop with lots of yummy things to choose from…..

Also beautiful Silent Auction baskets. Lots of different things to bid on. All awarded to the top bidders at 2:00.

Tea, Treats, Crafts, and Holiday Cheer at the Library!
The Cannon Beach Library’s Annual Holiday Tea will be held on Saturday December 7th at the library, 131 N Hemlock Street, in Cannon Beach, Oregon. This is a FREE community event sponsored by members and volunteers of the library. The tea runs from 1 to 4 p.m., before the City’s Annual Lamp Lighting Ceremony across the street at Sandpiper Square.
Community members and visitors are welcome to enjoy tea, hot mulled cider, home-baked cookies, and other treats in front of our cozy fireplace, surrounded by charming holiday decorations. The Holiday Tea is a chance for us to come together as a community to enjoy good food, good cheer, and good company.
