We’ll provide the all the elements needed to clean and sharpen, and will gladly show you how. No previous experience needed! Dress to stay warm, but not in your most precious finery. We’ll be using mineral spirits and linseed oil and don’t want to stain your favorite outfit.

Update on the Appeal of the Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development:
As most of you know, the RB City Council voted unanimously in December to deny the Appeal of the Nedonna Wave PUD. Thankfully, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition has filed an appeal with the Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). Oregon Shores is getting legal help from the Crag Law Center.
We hope this action will help prevent further development in the area for several important reasons: First, this land is a wetland that deserves protection; second, the development would be built on top of an aquifer, which serves as Rockaway Beach’s backup water source, and could pose a risk of contamination; finally, Nedonna Beach has only one road (egress) which is already insufficient in case of emergencies such as a medical emergency, floods, fires, storms, ocean surges and tsunami. Nedonna already has over 360 homes, adding more would exacerbate this safety concern.

North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection (NCCWP) invites you to the St. Mary by the Sea Parish Hall in Rockaway Beach on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 noon for a presentation by Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) students from the University of Oregon (UO). Their research project, entitled Coastal Futures, focuses on climate change adaptation strategies for coastal communities in Oregon and it’s led by Ignacio López Busón, a UO Assistant Professor of Climate Change Resilience. (St. Mary by the Sea is located at 275 S. Pacific St. in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.)
For the past three months, the students have visited and analyzed Rockaway Beach, meeting with local stakeholders to understand the values and challenges of the local community. Some of these challenges include coastal erosion, sea level rise, deforestation, drinking water quality, and urban development. This presentation will focus on their research regarding sustainable coastal practices and explore paths for long-term resilience. Everyone who is concerned about these issues is invited to attend to learn more about coastal sustainability and to engage in a discussion about planning for a more environmentally and socially-resilient future.
There will be no charge to attend. Bread from Wolfmoon Bakery and soup from Manzanita Wild will be served.

Nehalem Bay Health Center and Pharmacy Update

What to expect this week:
– First floor interior wall framing at north half of building to be completed
– Second floor framing at north half of building
– Low roof vapor barrier installation
Major milestones on the project:
– Low roof has been framed and sheathed
– First floor wall framing complete at south half of building
– Emergency generator enclosure retaining wall poured
About the new Health Center and Pharmacy:
– The new Health Center and Pharmacy project is a direct result of the five-year strategic plan the Health District adopted in 2019. That plan, now being updated, identified enhanced local health care as a top community priority.
– The new Health Center will have 15 exam and procedure rooms, a major upgrade from the existing facility, allowing space to accommodate specialty services, including x-ray and dental.
– The new Health Center has been designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind and will include a solar array, an emergency generator and a variety of energy saving features.

United Paws’ Kittens of the Week: Ricky and Molly
Meet Ricky and Molly, two of the fabulous kittens currently being fostered at United Paws while they await their forever homes.
Meet Ricky and Molly, two of the fabulous kittens currently being fostered at United Paws while they await their forever homes.
Ricky is a social butterfly, friendly and outgoing with every cat and person he meets. Ricky loves to sit in your lap for pets, perch on top of your paperwork while you work, or perhaps even stretch across your warm keyboard. He simply loves to hang out with you, but when the mood strikes, Ricky plays like a ninja fighter! His favorite toys include the spring and wand toy, and since he loves to play with other cats, he would do best in a home with a playmate or two.
Ricky was found as a tiny kitten living alone in a neighborhood. He needed a lot of TLC, but he is now a healthy, happy, energetic kitten who thrives on human interaction! You can view Ricky in action at his YouTube playlist via his QR code.
Perhaps you need a kitten to come into your life and take charge. Molly is an independent boss lady and she keeps her litter mates in line. She is also very playful and loves the attention of her people. Molly is curious and enjoys exploring new things, and though she can come off shy at first, she warms up with wonderful snuggles and is quick to purr.
