Hello conscious aging and community connections Friends!
The conscious aging and community connections program is held on the second Monday of each month from 2-4pm. Sponsorship by the Pine Grove Community House allows us to keep admission at $5 per session.
All proceeds go directly to the Pine Grove Community House.
Our overall program goals are to bring people in our community together, to get to know one another at a deeper level, and to encourage one another to live our best possible lives. Everyone is welcome to join us!
This coming Monday, November 11, the program is Calm and Connection: Guided meditation and singing bowls to heal the tension of these times. The anxious atmosphere of this election inspires us to gather for restful, calming practices. Join us to experience a guided meditation plus a singing bowl sound bath. Meditation guided by Ali Lufkin. Singing bowls sound bath by Christy Kay.

We will have chairs set up for you. If you prefer to lie on the floor, please bring your own yoga mat and/or blanket to use.

November 11, 2 – 4pm at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita. Please arrive before 2 as we will start promptly.

Upcoming programs:

Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, 2-4 pm, Winter Singalong. We’ll have piano accompaniment, song sheets, and hot cider. It’s also a cookie potluck for anyone who wants to bring cookies…but not at all a requirement to join in. Come raise your voices in joyful noise.

Monday January 13, 2025, 2-4pm. Here’s what we all need to have in place, for the inevitable loss of a partner or injury/illness if you live alone. From Personal Safety Nets to affordable wills to POLST forms. We’ll set up an accountability system for those who want it, to get these things done!

Our committee is busy planning future topics. From another round of “Getting to know each other,” to what Home Health and Homecare is available in the community, to Widow Scams and other Scams/Fraud, to Movement and Fall Prevention as we Age, we have many topics in process, identifying experts. We’ll send out announcements as they get finalized.

If you have suggestions for topics you’d like to explore in this group, please let us know. Contact Kathie Hightower at kathiejhightower@gmail.com

We, the members of the conscious living and community connections team, are so very grateful to be part of this wonderful community!

2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

2007 Toyota FJ
(low miles) for sale

This is an excellent rig! It has some blemishes but runs very well. It’s been mechanically well-cared for and has a brand-new clutch & battery (summer 2024).
It currently needs brakes and front cv axles.

134k miles
Strong engine & mechanical
Minor issues
Broken mirror and taillight cover
Some small rust spots in scratches

Not much driving the last couple years, about 100 miles so…No recent wear and tear.
It’s priced low. I’ve just been dragging my feet for a while because it’s a hard break up with this sweet sweet ride. I’ve had it for 15 years and love it but needed a pickup. Come get this comfortable-cruising, apocalypse busting classic. I’m letting it go for $10k firm.

Call/Text Jon at 503-504-8558.
I can send pics or you can see it in person.

mainstream news media

I really don’t want to be a regular poster, but someone recommended an excellent article to me and I thought it would be a disservice not to pass it along.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/nov/07/us-progressive-election-trump-maga

Big tech has replaced news partly because the national news media failed us a long time ago. They’re all only interested in profits. BBC is supported by a surprisingly reasonable fee levied on each household. They aren’t beholden to corporate interests, and they do a fabulous job providing many valuable services.

Yet in spite of all the misinformation we are bombarded with in America, we still have license to consider alternatives and challenge our thinking (for example: the notion that Ukraine cannot win could be contrasted with the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan).

Being aware that there’s a cesspool of information out there is half the battle. The other half is having an open mind and persistently comparing bits of info to refine our perceptions.
