Orchestra concerts this weekend!

Submitted By: sdawagner@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2024-2025 season with two concerts in March titled “Melodic Journeys.” Designed to please audience members of all ages, the performances will feature Greg Smith’s “The Melodic Life.” This piece traces the life story of a “lighthearted melody named Bob,” illustrating events like going to school, playing sports, and other developmental experiences. The underlying message that “variety is the spice of life” will be demonstrated through a wide range of musical themes. The narrator will be Deac Guidi, a local professional opera singer who has performed with NOCS and throughout the northwest region.

Another feature in the program will be Robert Smith’s Symphony No. 2, “The Odyssey.” Inspired by the ancient Greek poet Homer’s epic tale, this work takes the audience on a dazzling musical voyage.

Morton Gould’s rousing American Salute will round out this concert series.

The first concert will take place on Saturday, March 15, at the Nehalem Elementary School Gym (36300 8th St., Nehalem, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

The second concert will be on Sunday, March 16, at the Bob Chisholm Community Center (1225 Avenue A, Seaside, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm.

Admission for both concerts will be $10. Ages 18 and under are FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).
Tickets will be available at the door only for both concerts, cash and personal checks only.

Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.

No experience needed! Looking for a fun Spring Break activity? Learn the basics of watercolor and create a step by step spring daffodil and choice of backgrounds. Participants will learn how to use the supplies and try a few easy techniques, while learning simple brush strokes. You will get instruction on the different ways to use your paintbrush, color mixing, and be able to try some magical things that watercolor is capable of! Cheryl will demonstrate and let you practice each one, wet on wet, wet on dry and many others.
I will offer gentle, encouraging tips and tricks as we go along. Just show up with curiosity and openness to having some fun putting paint onto paper and seeing why watercolor is so magical.
All supplies will be provided to use but if you want to bring your own brushes and paints, feel free. You will have a finished painting to take home with you. Ages 8+ encouraged to attend with your adult. You’re never too old to discover the magic of watercolor!
Our family has had a home in Manzanita since the 1970’s. I have enjoyed watercolor painting at the beach, it’s really one of my most creative and inspirational places to be. Teaching classes here has connected me to the nicest people and great friendships.

Queen Platform Style Bed Frames and Mattresses

Submitted By: schechtel.m@comcast.net – Click to email about this post
I have been working on finding furniture for an apartment my sister and brother-in-law will be renting for 4-months this summer. I have come up with everything but the beds.

I am looking for two light-weight Queen bedframes, preferably platform style, and two gently-used mattresses. Free would be ideal but I’m also willing to pay a nominal amount.

I will donate, or post for free on the BBQ, all this furniture after my family leaves.

I would like to acquire these bed frames and mattresses soon because I am able to store them.
But if I don’t have luck finding what I need with this post, I’ll repost off and on.

Networking appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

SEE IT THIS WEEKEND! THE FINAL PERFORMANCES!

Riverbend Players launched the 2025 season with our first-ever Agatha Christie murder mystery—playing to huge crowds!

With five remaining shows, THE MOUSETRAP runs through March 16th at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem.

THE MOUSETRAP by Agatha Christie
Directed by Randy Schultz:

A classic murder mystery occurs in Monkswell Manor, a guesthouse where a snowstorm traps a group of strangers.

As news arrives of a murder nearby, the guests realize that the killer might be among them.

Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives to investigate, but as tensions rise and secrets are uncovered, another murder occurs.

The play is famous for its surprise twist ending, and audiences are traditionally asked to keep the plot’s resolution a secret.

The Mousetrap holds the world record as the longest-running play, debuting in 1952 and remaining continuously on stage.

Get your 2025 SEASON PASS now and save 20% on tickets. It’s only available until March 16th.

Cast book ends ( James Fraser “end of trail of tears”

Submitted By: Artwithmisskaren@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Some gals have too many shoes. I got to many bookends for my new little house. I had planned for book shelves the flank both sides of my fire place….. but the build got messed up so now no bookshelves. My past home had a big library so I collected vintage and antique book ends.
These are cast in original state and patina. The are James Fraser honoring the Native American Indians at the end of “the trail of tears”. A heart breaking time in our history for sure. It always felt good to have them around but they have no place in this little house with no built in book shelves.
I’ve have the for at least 35 years and don’t remember what I originally paid. But on line the ones I found are 185$ – 230$
I’m happy with 125$

That gives a reseller room to sell in their store. And affordable for a regular person like me, who loves artistic collectibles with soul & purpose.
I’d love to see them go to someone who gets what they represent.
Be well and shoot me a message with any questions.

Hello community!
My cardboard art installation is up at the lovely NCRD gallery until the end of month ❤ In years past I haven’t been very outspoken about having a show there, but it feels real important and fun to announce it on most platforms this time around. Check it out if you’re a curious cat. I had everyone in mind when creating it : )

what can we learn?

Submitted By: dwieb1@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
With 5 years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic there’s finally some good analyses of how countries around the world fared. They should be useful lessons for the next pandemic. The various opposing political stands should only be examples of what not to do, but that’s likely to continue anyway. As individuals though, we can learn from history and protect ourselves. Below is a link to one analysis by the BBC.

Japan’s experience stands out to me because they have long accepted mask-wearing as part of their strategy to reduce infections. Most of the article examines the use of lockdowns, which are, I think primarily, imposed to prevent overloading the health care system (which I think most of us have forgotten, and I’m sad to see some of us no longer appreciate medical staff as we did early on in the pandemic).

Extra Lg crock. Garden city pottery #5

Submitted By: Artwithmisskaren@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Adding to the list of things I love but have no space for here in my little house is this fabulous, flawless crock. In my last 5 houses it’s been used for kindling by the wood stove, by the door for umbrellas & walking sticks. In the mud room for gloves and hats. By the front door for my little guys muddy shoes. A toy box for my dog to keep all the fun stuff. So the possibilities are wide open. I researched and couldn’t find a #5 but I found a #2 for 59$ & a #3 for 300$ which seemed a little crazy. I’m happy to get 125$ which leaves some room if you’re buying to resale in your shop. And makes it affordable to the regular home.
It’s a sturdy old girl likely from the 1920’s and would easily last another 100 years if it’s not dropped from some height or run over by a truck.
Let me k Ie what you think.
