Books After Hours is Cloud & Leaf Bookstore’s Saturday evening event series. We’re open 5-8pm for casual browsing, snacks and wine, and meeting fellow book people—including new favorite authors.

This Saturday, April 19th, we’re hosting Lynne Spriggs O’Connor, author of ELK LOVE: A MONTANA MEMOIR. Lynne will read starting around 6pm, followed by Q&A.

We’ll have copies of ELK LOVE for purchase, and we’re pretty sure Lynne will be happy to sign them if you ask. 🙂

Johnny Six-Jabs responds to

A sad moment for our local Anti-vax Patriarch: RFK Jr (putative Secretary of Health an Human Services) has officially announced that “The most effective way to prevent the spread of measles is the MMR vaccine.” No response has been forthcoming from the Patriarch’s office as to whether Kennedy’s name will be placed on his List of War Pigs.

Of course, Sec. Kennedy didn’t come to this conclusion before quite a few kids checked into the ER with Vitamin A poisoning when they followed Kennedy’s previous recommendation to consume lots of cod liver oil.

OK, enough snideness! The outbreak is still happening and looking at where the large majority of cases have occurred, there’s much to be learned. Gaines County, Texas is on the far west high plains of the state and mainly known for extracting fossil fuels from the Permian Basin and irrigation water from the Ogallala Aquifer. The county of 22,000 is 82% vaccinated (95% is ideal for measles) and is home to large congregations of Anabaptist Mennonites who, while not theologically opposed to vaccination, seem in this case to be the focus for the outbreak along with plenty of people who no longer trust vaccines of any type.

So folks who meet congregately on a regular basis should be especially wary of the possibility that this highly contagious and serious disease is spreading farther afield.

Nobody is above the law!

Submitted By: dwieb1@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
First of all, SCOTUS declared the incumbent president above the law, so at least one person in the US is above the law.

A search of recent news gets many results echoing claims made in this recent post to BBQ. However all of the sources cited in the search results are either obscure or social media (in other words, it’s gone viral). Certainly at least one, if not all, well known news sources would report on such an explosive story. Instead nothing, so I thought this post was worth a fact check, and I found one by “Tech ARP” with the following reporting. Make of it what you will. Here are relevant excerpts:

“Some people are claiming or suggesting that 7 states have filed criminal referrals against Anthony Fauci and other top officials for COVID crimes. Some even claim that those states are calling for, or even pursuing, criminal charges against Fauci and other officials!”

“Let me start by pointing out that the criminal referrals against Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other top officials involved in the US COVID-19 pandemic response, were not filed by any state, never mind 7 of them.

Instead, they appear to have been filed by the Vires Law Group, which appears to be a South Florida-based law firm that specialises in civil litigation.

Anyone can file a criminal complaint, or a criminal referral, with the police or any US district attorney. You don’t even have to be a lawyer, or law firm, to do that.”

“It appears that the Vires Law Group has filed multiple criminal referrals since at least 2023, but despite their prolific efforts, no attorney general or district attorney in the United States has ever filed criminal charges against Dr. Anthony Fauci, or as far as I can tell – anyone else on the list either.”

“On the other hand, a coalition of 17 state attorneys general led by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson say that they’re investigating Dr. Fauci’s role in the US government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, after President Biden gave him a blanket pardon.”

“Notably, those 17 state attorneys general still have not filed criminal charges against Dr. Fauci, as of 11 April 2025. That usually indicates they have not found “violations of state laws“, or they would have taken “appropriate action to ensure justice is served.“

In addition, this investigation by those state attorneys general appear to be limited to Dr. Fauci, and does not involve any of the other people mentioned in the criminal referrals by the Vires Law Group.”

SATURDAY PROTEST MANZANITA

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
There will be a different location for this week’s peaceful PROTEST gathering. We will be meeting at the corner of Highway 101 and both Laneda and Manzanita Avenues. We will meet up at noon and going to 2 PM, Saturday, April 19. There are a few extra signs but please feel free to bring your own. The gatherings in Nehalem have been positive with approximately 98% of the people going by thanking us for PROTEST. New people are coming to join us each week-we thank them all! Please join us if you can. At this moment, the weather is projected to be cloudy next Saturday, but we all know that can change one way or another.

Government funds have affected many local programs. A critical program in our area is the North Tillamook County Food Bank (NTCFB) located in Wheeler. We are asking you to donate what you can to this organization. The location of the NTCFB is 278 Rowe Street-which is across from the Nehalem Bay Health Center. The building is only open when food is distributed and that is at noon on Tuesdays.

You can donate three ways. Go to their website, www.northtillamookcountyfoodbank.org and press the “donate” button to donate online. You can send a check to NTCFB, PO Box 162, Wheeler, Oregon, 97147. Or you can go to the NTCFB on Tuesday to deliver food at that time. A monthly donation they can count on would be a real bonus. The NTCFB has a message phone, 503-368-7724. Thank you for considering adding them to your giving list. We will have collection boxes for canned foods and donations at all our PROTEST locations.

A reminder of our PROTEST will be sent out later this week.

Hello, everyone!
I’m looking for a small, cozy place to rent in or near Seaside, starting early May.

I have two sweet, well-behaved senior dogs, so pet-friendly is needed.
Just looking for something simple and comfortable, — a studio, 1-bedroom, or small cottage would be perfect.
If you know of anything available or have any leads, feel free to message me.
I work locally, am looking forward to settling in, getting involved with my new community, doing volunteer work and making Seaside home.
Thanks so much!

Nobody is above the law!

From article:

“Criminal referral requests for charges including murder and medical terrorism against Anthony Fauci, Deborah Birx and other top COVID officials have now been filed in seven US states.

Referrals were filed in Arizona and Pennsylvania, along with pre-existing referrals in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri and Oklahoma. The charges include murder, negligent homicide, involuntary manslaughter, medical coercion and abuse, racketeering, operating a corrupt organization and terrorism

The filings, which come from the Vires Law Group and the Former Feds Group Freedom Foundation, call on state attorneys general to pursue Anthony Fauci and other pandemic-era officials for a wide range of serious crimes. The charges include murder, negligent homicide, involuntary manslaughter, medical coercion and abuse, racketeering, operating a corrupt organization and terrorism.

Among the individuals being pursued are Anthony Fauci, former NIAID director; Deborah Birx, former White House COVID coordinator; Rachelle Walensky, former CDC director; Francis Collins, former NIH director; Peter Hotez, Baylor vaccine promoter; Robert Redfield, former CDC director; and Peter Daszak, EcoHealth Alliance president and collaborator with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

On his last day in office, President Biden issued a largely unprecedented pre-emptive pardon for Anthony Fauci in an attempt to shield him from prosecution by the incoming Trump administration.

In response, Fauci told the media he “truly appreciated” Biden for taking action, and the possibility of prosecution had created “immeasurable and intolerable distress” for his family.

In February, 17 state attorneys general made a formal request to Congress for funding to investigate the origins of COVID-19 and explore possible legal action against Fauci and others. Although President Biden’s pardon prevents federal prosecution, it does not prevent legal action at the state level, the attorneys general argue.”
