ISO Yarn Ball Winder

Submitted By: dawnalexeast@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi there! I’m picking up crochet again after years of not doing it. I had a yarn ball winder years ago, but it either got given away or lost. I’m willing to pay for one, but most of everything somewhat affordable is sold on Amazon. Which I simply refuse to give money to.

If there are any knitter’s, crocheters, spinners, etc out there with an extra or simply one they don’t want anymore, I’d love to give you a bit of money for it.

Thanks for reading!

PROTEST RALLY IN NEHALEM, SATURDAY

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
A protest is scheduled in Downtown Nehalem on Saturday, June 28th from noon to 2 PM. The weather will be improved this week compared to last. While global events continue, the situation is still unresolved, but there is hope for a sustained cease-fire. Diplomatic efforts are vital in these negotiations.

Last week, a significant amount of food was collected for the North Tillamook County Food Bank (NTCFB). It is important to continue this initiative. Donating items like canned food, boxed macaroni, canned meats, cereals, or other non-perishable goods is encouraged. More information can be found on their website www.northtillamookcountyfoodbank.org. Donations can also be sent to NTCFB, PO Box 162, Wheeler, Oregon, 97147. The phone number at the food bank is 503-368-7724, where you can leave a message. Boxes for donations will be available in Nehalem during the protest.

The protest aims to be peaceful. Avoid engaging with harassers. No negative incidents have been reported in Nehalem or Manzanita protests. Attend with a positive attitude.

It may be warm on Saturday, so dressing in layers is suggested due to the possibility of cool winds. Participants are recommended to bring a chair, a flag, a sign, and invite others to join. Communicating with others about the protest is important to ensure participation. Speak up and speak out to your friends and neighbors.

Thank you to everyone involved in whatever way you can be.

Best regards,

Patty

GENERAL INTEREST ,HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

Submitted By: tevisdiii@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The gist of the article linked below is that the United States Of America, it’s people, have allowed themselves to be deluded by material comfort and the belief that we have been participating in a democratic system, presenting ourselves as exceptional bearers of the torch of freedom when the hard historical facts show that right from the beginning, our nation has pursued Empire, above and beneath all else. It has left a bloody trail and sown seeds which have been decades coming to fruition and now, we need to honestly look in the mirror and see what we have become in the eyes of the world.

Power hungry hounds leapt ahead as industry rolled into the twentieth century and by the end of the world wars, empire had gone electric, presenting itself as the world leader, showcasing itself as THE model of representative democracy while installing a grid of military bases and business friendly autocrats around the globe and now, here we are, just like so many empires before; crumbling from within for being abandoned, and rebellion from without by those who were shackled by either the pen or the bullet.

Red or blue, it hasn’t mattered. Greed and avarice will wear any coat that works, and all of us, to varying degrees, participate, knowingly or not.

Read the article. How much can you disagree with.

Looking for a forklift operator

Rockaway Beach resident looking for a licensed forklift operator for about an hour of work. Will be needed in the next couple of weeks (date still TBD), but hoping to find someone sooner than later so that plans can be made to rent forklift and set up work. More info to come for those interested that can run a forklift. If you have your own forklift, that would be even better as I will have to rent one once I find an operator.

When You Take It Back: Why Following Through Matters More Than You Think

Submitted By: optimalcoachingservices@gmail.com – Click to email about this post

By Denise Donohue, Social Emotional Coach & Parent Support Specialist

Have you ever grounded your kid, maybe took away a sleepover, a phone, a favorite hoodie, and then… gave it back?

You’re not alone. I’ve been there too. You’re not a bad parent. You’re a human one. And human parents feel guilt. Especially when the consequence ends up being harder on us than on them. Canceling a sleepover? That’s not just taking something from your child…that’s taking away your peace and quiet for the night. Now you’re home with a sulky tween giving you death stares and sighing louder than the dishwasher.

Totally normal.

But here’s the thing. When we set a boundary and then undo it, especially when it’s because our child apologized sweetly, acted more mature, or just wore us down, we’re sending messages we don’t always mean to send.

What Kids Learn When We Give In:

When parents reverse a consequence, kids start learning things that can actually hurt them long-term:

“If I push hard enough, I can change the rules.”

“Mom or Dad doesn’t really mean what they say.”

“I don’t have to deal with the results of my choices.”

And that last one? That’s a big one. Because out here in the real world, consequences don’t go away because we “mean well.”

If you get fired from a job, you can’t sweet-talk your way back in after a good attitude for 20 minutes.

If you get a detention in high school, no one says, “Well… she nice to the teacher today and did all her homework, Let’s cancel that.”

The Real Cost: Safety and Trust

Here’s the part that often gets missed: when we don’t follow through, it doesn’t just affect behavior…it affects our child’s sense of safety.

Kids thrive on structure. Even when they act like they hate the rules, they need the rules. Boundaries make the world feel predictable. And when a parent says one thing and does another, even with good intentions, it sends the message: “This world isn’t stable. I don’t know what to expect.”

That can increase anxiety, reduce respect, and slowly chip away at trust.

So, What Can You Do Instead?

You don’t need to parent perfectly. But you do need to be consistent. Here’s how:

1. Pause Before You Set a Consequence
Ask yourself: Am I calm?
Can I realistically follow through?
What lesson do I want them to take from this?

If the answer is no, wait until you can answer yes.

2. Stick With It, Even When It’s Hard
It’s okay to feel bad when your child is disappointed. But don’t confuse guilt with guidance. Holding the boundary is what actually teaches self-control.

3. Repair With Integrity
If you do give in, and again, we all have, you can model accountability:
“Hey, I realized I didn’t follow through. That wasn’t fair to either of us. I’m working on being more consistent.”

That’s not weakness. That’s leadership!

The Takeaway

Consistency isn’t harsh, it’s love in motion. When we follow through, we’re not punishing our kids, we’re preparing them. For real-life relationships. For resilience. For consequences that don’t come with a “take-back” option.

So the next time you want to reverse a consequence, remember: they don’t need a softened rule. They need a steady parent.

You’ve got this. And if you need backup, I’m right here cheering you on, one boundary at a time. Click the link to schedule your complimentary session, and see how my coaching might be a right fit for you and your teen.

FRIENDS OF NETARTS BAY – WEBS, PRESENTS
TIDEPOOL DISCOVERY DAYS IN THE MONTH OF JUNE

It’s not too late to register for one of the three remaining Tidepool Discovery events in Oceanside! Come and join us June 26th, 27th and 28th during the great low tides that are perfect for exploring and discovering some amazing creatures lurking at the water’s edge.

Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS staff and volunteers will be onsite in the tidepools to share about the habitats along the coastal edge. Learn about the anemone clone wars, how a sea star eats, or how hermit crabs steal shell homes from other crabs. From seaweeds to sculpin fish, there is an amazing world to discover!

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, friends and family as you enjoy the beauty of Oceandide’s amazing tide pools. We hope to see you on the beach!

Details: Wear boots or bring a change of shoes. DO NOT WEAR Flip flops (they are never ideal for exploring tide pools). Be prepared for Oregon Coast weather.

This program involves walking on slippery and uneven surfaces, including rocks that may be covered in water, seaweed, and barnacles. We understand everyone learns and experiences the outdoors differently, and we strive to support everyone who is interested in attending our events! Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your accessibility needs.

Registration is required. Learn more and register for this event at:
