White Clover Grange Apple Grafting Workshop

White Clover Grange hosts apple tree grafting workshop

On April 5 from 1pm to 4 pm, the Grange will host a grafting workshop that is free and open to the public.

We will feature heritage apple varieties that will be grafted on to semi-dwarf disease resistant root stock.

The art of grafting is an old one. Since apple trees do not reproduce the same variety from their seeds, farmers and horticulturalists take scion wood (a young branch from an existing tree) and attached it to a similar sized branch that has roots. The two branches are matched for size and then taped together. If done well, the two parts will fuse and a new tree will grow. The scion wood is responsible for the type of apple, while the root stock controls characteristics such as the height of the tree, vigor, and disease resistance.

Materials will be provided. However, if you would like to bring scion wood from your own trees, it is best to collect young branches about the size of a pencil as soon as possible, while the trees are still dormant, and place in a bag in the refrigerator until the workshop.

To sign up for the workshop or for more information, contact Jennifer Childress at 503-801-4078

Learn about the various benefits and pick up this essential cooking skill. Cooking with earths microbes makes veggies more nutritious and supports how we are able to digest the rest of our foods we eat them with while improving our immunity and health on other levels.

If you don’t have these foods as part of your regular diet, now is a great time to start! You can be eating yummy probiotic pickled carrots made in your own kitchen with your spring and Easter celebration meals. Kids (of all ages!) love the tangy and zippy taste too!

This is a two-part class. $35 includes both days. 1 hr each day. We reconvene on Tuesday the 8th to discuss how everyone’s processes went, answer questions and explore further recipes now that you’ll have successfully navigated a basic veggie ferment!

Outsmart Overeating Course for Women begins Monday

Stop Fighting Your Body—Start Loving It with Neuroscience!

If you’ve spent years criticizing your body, punishing yourself with strict diets, and feeling stuck in the cycle of self-sabotage, there is a scientific and proven path to freedom.
Your brain has been wired to believe that self-criticism = motivation. But guess what? Neuroscience proves the opposite is true!

Here’s the truth: When you constantly judge yourself, your brain triggers stress hormones that make weight loss HARDER. But when you shift to self-love and self-care, your brain actually supports your body’s natural ability to shed weight and have you feeling more like your authentic self.

Imagine retraining your brain to:
Release guilt & emotional eating
Feel motivated from love, not punishment
Enjoy lasting weight loss without restriction

It’s time to break the cycle. It’s time to love yourself into wholeness.

My 8-Week Neuroscience-Based Weight Loss Course teaches you how to retrain your brain for lasting weight loss and lasting self-acceptance.

NORTH COUNTY RECREATION DISTRICT (NCRD): Prepare for Parking Lot Closures Over Next Few Weeks – North Lot Closed Tuesday March 25
The parking woes will continue at the North County Recreation District as all the parking lots are paved, get striping and improvements. The north parking lot on B Street will be CLOSED on Tuesday March 25th for preparations for striping. Please obey “No Parking” signage/cones, be considerate of neighbors, and do not block driveways or the road way.
Then on April 7th and 8th, weather depending, ALL the parking areas at NCRD will be closed for paving and striping. NCRD will make additional announcements as we get closer to these dates to confirm and include suggestions for parking.
Please be mindful that the NCRD campus is an active construction zone. Use care and caution as you walk between the buildings and facilities. “We understand how difficult it can be for some of our patrons with mobility challenges,” said executive director Barbara McCann. “If you need help to enter the building, please contact our Welcome Center at 855-444-6273, and we will help you to negotiate the closures.”
Thank you to the neighbors and patrons for their patience as we move toward completion of the Aquatics Center.

Social Security is Not Closing Any field Sites

Submitted By: dixiedarrow@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has said it is not closing any Social Security field offices after a U.S. senator said the unofficial government agency is intentionally attempting to stop Americans receiving benefits.
SocialSecurity is not closing any field sites in Georgia or elsewhere. The confusion likely arises from the closure of 5 permanent remote hearing sites (PRSs)—single rooms within field sites used for hearings.
“Since most hearings are now virtual, these PRSs are unnecessary. Field sites remain open, and Social Security has no plans to close any public-facing sites nationwide.”
