Organic Landscaping (Design and Installation)

Submitted By: andyevansparker@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Hi BBQ-ers! I am honestly thrilled to finally write this and say I am back and settled after two years in Pennsylvania. We couldn’t be more thrilled and have signed a long-term lease in Manzanita.

Wanted to spread the word that my organic landscape company is currently booking projects for late Summer and Fall 2025. Once upon a time I posted a similar flyer here on the BBQ and was busy for eight years! I have no problem with that happening again 😉

REFRESH Organic Landscapes holds an “All-Phase” license with the Oregon Landscape Contractors Board – meaning we’re able to do irrigation, built structures (wood and stone), complete garden plantings in addition to general landscape maintenance and clean-ups. We also specialize in ecolawns and offer pressure washing as well. We are licensed, bonded and insured through the OR LCB and Farmers Insurance.

Call or email to schedule a free consultation or just to chat!
Have a wonderful weekend,

Beautiful large modern desk

Submitted By: peggie.turton@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Beautiful office desk or craft station. It is very heavy and must be moved in two separate pieces the bottom and top. If you can haul it out of the room and into your truck it it yours! I didn’t use it as I had intended and I need the space now. If it doesn’t get taken it we will have to demolish it.

PROTEST IN NEHALEM THIS WEEK, August 9

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Call to Action – Everyone is Needed

Thank You for Standing With Us!

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the 30-plus people who joined us on August 2 in Nehalem for our protest. Your presence fuels our movement and inspires hope for real change.

Who We Are – North County Resistance

Our group, North County Resistance, brings together community members from throughout the tri-city area who are committed to making a difference. At our last event, we met an inspiring visitor—a woman who, though in town for a funeral, took the time to protest with us. She noted, “You have the same gray hair group we have at our protests.” While we are proud of the dedication of our regulars, we know our movement’s strength grows when new voices join the chorus.

Why Your Voice Matters—A Call for Younger Members

Younger voices bring fresh ideas and energy that help us adapt and grow as a movement. Your perspective can spark innovative approaches and expand our reach into new communities. If you’re interested in making a difference, consider volunteering to help get more protesters. I am looking forward to having our Elected State Officials, our County Commissioners, our City Governments, and all social organizations showing up to protest.

What’s at Stake – Protecting Our Community

As our national government continues to enact sweeping budget cuts, essential programs hang in the balance. Recent changes threaten vital services—like food assistance for local families, access to affordable healthcare, and resources for those in need. By joining our protests, you help defend these critical supports and ensure our community’s wellbeing for generations to come.

Upcoming Event—Join Us in Nehalem!

Time: Noon to 1:30 PM (note time change)

Location: Nehalem

What to Bring:

Signs (we have extras if you need one)

A chair

Water

A positive spirit for this Positive PROTEST

Sign Guidelines:

If there’s an issue you care about, write it on your sign.

Please keep signs clean and respectful—children will be viewing them.

If you have ideas for reaching more people or want to join our next event, please contact us or bring a friend along! Each new face not only strengthens our numbers but also brings fresh energy and perspective to our cause. And yes, please pass this note along to people on your email lists—we are making a difference and with your help, we will make more.

Our Impact Through Donations

We are making a difference in our community by our donations to the North County Food Bank. For example, last month, our contributions helped provide groceries for 15 local families. Every Tuesday, we deliver food and money collected at our PROTESTS directly to the NCFB in Wheeler.

If you’d like to contribute, checks can be sent to NCFB at PO Box 162, Wheeler, Oregon, 97147. Also, remember that Nehalem Bay Community Services is delivering lunches to students in the Neah-Kah-Nie School District. To help with this program, you can mail a check to NBCS, PO Box 232, Nehalem, Oregon, 97131.

Together, we are creating meaningful, positive change in North County—thank you for standing with us! Thanks, Patty Rinehart

Beautifully carved Vintage Chinese chest from the 80’s.

The camphor chest has beautifully carved detail on all sides of the trunk with a sailing boat theme. The trunk opens smoothly and when closed, provides a tight seal. The brass hardware is all in great condition. The chest measures 31″W x 15″T x 15″D. Has the original brass key (which is very rare). This size sells for $500-$950, depending on age and details. I am selling for $250.

Fine wool, mohair, silk, cotton fibers for sale

Submitted By: lynnleveringthomas@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
Selling my very, very fine wool and cotton fibers, both dyed and undyed. I was a yarn designer in the 90’s while living in Portland. Researched and purchased wool fibers from all over the world, but many from Oregon. I am in the process of moving out of state and would like to offer these fibers to textile lovers at a much reduced price.

I have washed merino, kid mohair, Romney, and Corriedale fleece. I also have raw silk, silk roving, merino roving, camel, alpaca and cotton rovings. All of these will sell for $1/oz.

I also have two bags of yearling mohair, unwashed that I am selling for $5/bag.

I addition, I have small amounts of beautifully dyed (I used Lanaset dyes) merino, Corriedale, kid mohair, angora bunny, etc. in blues, teal, purple, and more. Selling those for $2/oz.

These are really beautiful fibers for felting, spinning into yarn, and dying.

Manzanita Farmers Market week 13: Friday 4-7

Submitted By: info@manzanitafarmersmarket.com – Click to email about this post
Summer is moving on quickly, and the farmers market is hopping!  Hopefully this week’s rain will help keep down the dust, I know I’ve enjoyed this little taste of fall.  We’ve got another full, busy market planned for this week, and we are excited that the new city hall is finally open!  That means not only that our city has a new home that fits their needs and will provide civic and emergency services for years to come, but also that the new public bathrooms inside the building will be open during the market.  Oh boy!

Music this week is by Dean Mueller.  After years of performing with renowned bands and blues legends, Dean stepped into the spotlight with his 2023 debut solo album Life Ain’t All Roses, which introduced audiences to his blend of storytelling and folk-inspired melodies rooted in blues tradition.  Based in Oregon since 1998, Dean has become a vital figure in the region’s music scene, both as a performer and a promoter. With his 2024 album Wishes Never Gone, he continues to carve his own path—writing songs that resonate with authenticity and invite listeners to hold on to the dreams and desires that never truly fade.

Our sponsor of the week is Sunset Vacation Rentals.  Located right here on Laneda, they provide property management and vacation rental services in and around Manzanita.  They were quick to support the farmers market and our Triple Up SNAP match, where we provide an extra $20 to SNAP shoppers to spend at the market every week.  We appreciate the local businesses who support our vendors, our market, and our community!

See you all Friday, 4-7 at 635 Manzanita Ave.

ISO, borrow a Cello

Submitted By: Constance@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Hello Community,
I have a 15 yr old guest coming tomorrow for the weekend. She is very much into learning the Cello and is taking lessons. Unfortunately there was no extra room in the car to bring hers. Do you by chance have one I could borrow? This is a very responsible, respectful young girl and I’d love to hear her practice and play. Please call or text me at 503-936-1511. I could pick up tomorrow afternoon or Saturday. Thank you for any consideration.
