Last summer, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition challenged the Rockaway Beach Planning Commission’s approval of a 28-unit housing development in the Nedonna Beach neighborhood (which is classified as a freshwater forested and shrub wetland by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). At a public hearing, Oregon Shores and many concerned residents spoke out strongly in opposition; however, the City Council voted unanimously to approve the development. In response, Oregon Shores took the case to the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA). Oregon Shores is receiving legal support from the Crag Law Center.
Nedonna Development, LLC has requested for the Rockaway Beach City Council to proceed with their application for development after LUBA remanded this issue back to the city. The City Council will hold a special public hearing meeting at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at City Hall.
About Crag Law Center: Crag Law Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Each year, Crag provides $3 million worth of free and low-cost legal services to people who are working on the ground to protect our water, air, wildlife, forests, farmland and communities.

We will be debuting our first commemorative Manzanita Farmers Market poster this Friday! We hope to start a tradition of having different art to mark each year of the market. The funds raised from poster sales will be used to help fund the market, and particularly our Triple Up SNAP match program. This year’s poster was made by board member and long time vendor Jordan Gulaskey, and is an original linocut portraying some of the unique offerings of our beloved farmers market! These will be for sale in the market info booth, just inside the entrance. Make sure to get yours!
Music this week will be by Juliet Yanko, a local multi-instrumentalist and award-winning vocalist whose songs summon a deep presence and “will make you laugh and cry as she exposes the sweetness of humanity down to its sexy mortal bones.”
Join us Friday, 4-7, at 635 Manzanita Avenue.

Saturday, August 30 2–4pm
Eat, drink, dance, and be merry with The Sedona Fire Band this Labor Day weekend! We will be at the Nehalem Bay Winery on Hwy 53 about a mile from Hwy 101.

Labor Day in Manzanita!
Sedona Fire Band will be at The Little Apple on Monday, Sept 1, from 12pm-3pm filling the air with music while friends and neighbors gather to eat, connect, and celebrate the magic of our community. Thanks Chung and Judy for this annual party! We hope to see you there!
We invite you to join us for the Saturday, August 23rd protest in Nehalem at the city parking lot located at the bottom of the hill. North County Resistance (NCR) will gather from noon to 2 PM for a safe and peaceful demonstration. As far as we know, there are no disruptions expected, and the spirit of unity and community will be our guide.
We welcome everyone in our community to join us in peaceful dialogue and collective action. Whether you are a long-time supporter, a first-time participant, or simply curious, your perspective is valued. While we understand that not everyone agrees with our approach, we respect all viewpoints and remain committed to our mission of positive change. Our intention is to foster constructive conversations and mutual respect among all participants.
The weather is predicted to be hot, so we encourage you to dress in layers, bring water, a chair if you need one, and consider sunscreen or an umbrella for shade. These steps will help keep everyone comfortable and safe. If you have questions about what to bring or how to participate, please feel free to reach out.
If you wish to support our local North County Food Bank, you may bring food donations directly to the protest, where we will gather them and deliver them to the Food Bank in Wheeler each Tuesday. Alternatively, you can contact the North County Food Bank online at northtillamookcountyfoodbank.org for more information on donation guidelines and their current location in Wheeler. Monetary donations are gratefully accepted by check made out to NCFB, PO Box 162, Wheeler, Oregon 97147.
Your participation truly makes a difference. We encourage you to stand with us—bring your friends, family, neighbors, and club members to make your voice heard and help strengthen our community. The changes being made by our Federal Government affect us all, and together, we can work toward positive solutions.
Looking ahead, our next protest will be held during Labor Day week in Manzanita. Stay tuned for more details soon!
Thank you for reading, and let’s hope we get cookies again this week! Your presence matters—let’s come together for positive change.
And remember your WATER!
Best regards,
Patty
