Author Jakob Kerr to Discuss His Thriller ‘Dead Money’ Oct. 18

Submitted By: nmccarthy1276@gmail.com – Click to email about this post
The New York Times has praised the mystery, Dead Money, as one of the best thrillers of 2025, and author Jakob Kerr will discuss his debut novel at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Cannon Beach Library.

Hosted by the library’s NW Authors Series, the presentation is free and open to the public, available in-person at the library or livestreamed via a link on the library’s website. Books will be available for sale.

Set in Silicon Valley, Dead Money begins with the murder of Trevor Canon, the CEO of the hottest startup, Journy. Later it is learned that Canon, who feared such a possibility, had changed
his will to include a “dead money” clause, specifying that, in the event of his murder, his $20 billion in
company stock will remain frozen until his murder is solved.

From there, the story takes numerous twists and turns, involving a ruthless venture capitalist, a young investigator, the FBI and several quirky technology experts who add details to the plot, which continues to surprise through the last page.

In Dead Money, Kerr, the son of Cannon Beach residents Bruce and Lisa Kerr, draws on his experiences to create the novel. Kerr spent 15 years as a lawyer and communications executive in the San Francisco tech industry. He now lives in Seattle.

Publishers Weekly called Kerr a “formidable new talent.”

In addition, the Seattle Times says Dead Money is “exhilarating and unpredictable.”

“Packed with jaw-dropping twists, a compelling outsider heroine and scathing insights into the tech world’s glittering facade, Dead Money is an electrifying debut that demands to be devoured.”

NO KINGS DAY, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, MANZANITA

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Hi Folks,

I get information daily now about the No Kings Day coming up this Saturday around the nation and here in Manzanita. Location is on Highway 101 at the top of Laneda and Manzanita Avenues. Time is from noon to 2 PM. The last information I received from the No Kings Team said this: ” Let’s do everything in our power to make No Kings Day the biggest, peaceful day of action possible.” So, are you with us? The website below talks about this event. Please watch it. As with all you tube, you could watch
forever, just asking you to watch this video on safety.

Go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fka4dek_YW8

Our Safety Committee consists of 14 people who will be wearing orange vests. At the event know where these people are in case you have a problem. With your help our group will keep this event safe for everyone.

If you can, dress in yellow. This will make our group stand out even more than they already do. If you can, bring a NO KINGS sign, or sign of your choice. Know that these signs will be seen by the public of any age, so we ask you to make your sign appropriate for anyone to see. Make your sign as positive as you can to reflect the positiveness of our PROTEST. Yes, we are all MAD about what is going on. Let’s just not be as mad as the people running the government right now. We are better than that. Remember: GOOD NEEDS TO WIN!
What else do you want to see at our PROTEST? Let me know, because this is all about US, and US needs to speak up!

Enjoy our sunny days.
Best,
Patty

MUsiCAL STORYTIME FOR PRESCHOOLERS AT THE MANZANITA LIBRARY

Submitted By: sdawagner@icloud.com – Click to email about this post
Pete the Cat is one cool dude as he strolls around in his new white shoes. Preschoolers
and their parents and caregivers can find out more about Pete the Cat’s adventures when
attending North Oregon Coast Symphony’s FREE Musical Storytime October 20 at the
Manzanita Library at 10:30. Musical Storytime is a hands-on musical activity for preschoolers.
This free outreach program is for children ages 2-5. This month’s story is Pete the Cat, I
Love My White Shoes and will be accompanied by flute player, Shelley Loring. Pete the Cat is
silly, fun, and has brightly colored illustrations. Pete loves his bright white sneakers so much that
he sings about them wherever he goes. Children will love singing along to this story. Loring will
talk more about her flute after the story is read and demonstrate the various sounds she can
produce. Then different wind instruments will be handed out for the children to play.
Similar events are being planned monthly in partnership between North Oregon Coast
Symphony, North Tillamook Library, Seaside Library, and Astoria Library. For more
information, visit the symphony’s website at www.nocsymphony.org., or seasidelibrary.org, or

A THANK YOU FROM RIVERBEND PLAYERS AND WHAT’S NEXT THIS DECEMBER

Submitted By: admin@riverbendplayers.org – Click to email about this post

What an incredible run! A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to the cast, crew, and every single person who came out to support THE INVISIBLE MAN: A LIVE RADIO PLAY, directed by Tom Cocklin, at the NCRD Performing Arts Center.
It takes a special kind of magic to make an invisible man appear, and our team did it with passion, talent, and a whole lot of amazing sound effects! We are so proud of this show and grateful to our community for sharing in the experience with us.
But don’t get too comfortable… because the holidays are just around the corner! Get ready to trade suspense for holiday sweaters and eggnog.
We can’t wait to see you all in December for the laugh-out-loud holiday comedy that spoofs the Hallmark Christmas movies, THE HOLIDAY CHANNEL CHRISTMAS MOVIE WONDERTHON!
See you soon at the theater!

UPCOMING

Submitted By: pattyrinehart@nehalemtel.net – Click to email about this post
Dear Folks,

What an excellent PROTEST we had today in Nehalem—even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits! About 30 people joined us, and hundreds more showed their support by honking and giving us the thumbs up. Many agreed that this was the most enthusiastic response we’ve received in weeks. Over the past few months, we’ve held more than 16 PROTESTS, and while we wish we could be out every day, it’s not always possible. There are so many positive events happening in North Tillamook County, and we are truly fortunate to live in such a vibrant, supportive community where freedom of speech is celebrated.

Looking ahead, we need to get serious about next week’s PROTEST in Manzanita. Your support is crucial—here’s how you can help: bring a friend, make a sign, donate snacks like banana bread or pumpkin bread for our protesters, or simply spread the word to encourage others to join us. We especially hope to see more teenagers participate; we haven’t seen any at our PROTEST since July 4th in Manzanita. Even if you can’t stay, drive by a couple of times and honk to show your support. Every action makes a difference!

Rain is likely next Saturday, but this week proved that a little weather won’t hold us back. To keep everyone safe at the Manzanita PROTEST, we’ll share important instructions in the next few days—please read them carefully and follow them. These guidelines are for everyone’s safety. If you’re unable to follow the instructions, we ask that you refrain from attending.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather today! We are grateful for your dedication and proud to be part of this amazing community.

Don’t forget your donation of canned food to our North Tillamook County Food Bank. Go put your donation in your care now. Thanks.

Best,

Patty
