I recently received their newsletter in the mail and was so impressed with how successfully they met their mission which is to “broaden the horizons of all children in North Tillamook County through programs in collaboration with our community partners.”

The Missoula Children’s Theater at NCRD performed “Wendy and Peter” with 60 talented young actors.
NKN students went to Fire School to learn about wildland firefighting at a 3 day camp in the Cascades learning technical skills, first aid, map reading, and equipment identification and use.
Garibaldi and Nehalem students were treated to an exciting jump rope performance by the Tsunami Skippers from Seaside demonstrating athletic skills, teamwork, determination and fun. Afterwards, students in both schools worked on their own jump roping skills.
24 campers went to the 4H Wild West Camp, a week of outdoor adventure, friendship and skill building at the Oregon Outdoor Education Center.
NKN Trash Pandas competed at Oregon Battle of the Books against the Tillamook Psycho Dogs answering questions in a number of categories.
Garibaldi K/1 students went to the Oregon Zoo in Portland to supplement their learning about animal adaptations and the 7 continents.
Nehalem First graders went to Hoffman Center to experience art, learned about pottery at Mudworks and visited Cloud and Leaf bookstore as a way to instill love of reading, writing, editing and illustrating.
NKN High School Student Council and Media Team attended the 2 day Oregon Association of Student Councils Leadership Conference in Seaside.
NCRD held a Cooking Camp where 15 little chefs shared their creations with their families and staff and learned about kitchen safety.
There was a Restaurant Invasion at Nehalem Elementary where local restaurants came to the school to cook interesting, kid-friendly meals in a fancy dining experience.
2 weeks of NCRD Art Camp were available to kids to create art through drawing, painting, and clay.
NKN Middle schoolers went to the Hatfield Science Center where one team worked on the challenge of creating a remote operated vehicle that could pick up metal objects in the bottom of a pool. The other team toured the center, participated in hands on activities and worked on a simulation of navigating a ship into harbor.
Nehalem fifth graders spent 5 full days at Camp Rilea for STEAM Science Day Camp focused on Scientific Concepts, Motion and Force, Technology, Engineering, and General Scientific Exploration.
The NKN Link Crew creates meaningful connections with incoming 9th graders and guides them through their transition into high school, cultivating students’ sense of belonging through mentorship and support.
Garibaldi third-fifth graders created cooperative teams in a Battle of the Books and tackled 16 official 3rd-5th grade books from the Oregon Battle of the Books list, studying comprehension, plot, characters and authors to compete against each other.
The NKN Spanish teacher started a Baile Folklorico group and with new Baile outfits danced at the “Mercado Latino” (Latin Market). They learned traditional dances from 2 regions and Mexico that were interactive and got the whole crowd of 150 spectators involved.
