Dear folks,

Wanting to pass along a note from Ed and Mary. Yes, North County Resistance will be protesting again in Nehalem this Saturday, August 15, from noon to 2 PM. We hope you will join us. Come when you can and stay as long as you can. Sunscreen and water are highly recommended. Bring a chair if you need one. If you need help getting this all to the sidewalk just let us know and we will gladly help you. The following is from Ed and Mary:

We wrote back in January that we hoped that we were just alarmist about the threat Trump was having on our democratic institutions. We still hope we are wrong, but recent events point to an authoritarian takeover of our government…it’s there in plain sight:
* Trump not ruling out calling a national emergency to stop the midterm elections.
* Trump is building up ICE into a huge armed force that can be used for voter intimidation at his direction.
* Trump rolling out “new” declassified documents on voter fraud…why now, not when he was calling elections that he lost, rigged?
* Trump ignoring the courts and the Congress (Epstein files for example).
* Trump pardoning insurrectionist…green light to do it again, maybe in the states where Trump candidates lost.

These are facts and they should be very unsettling to Americans who don’t want a dictator to lead our country (yes, and some do). And are state and local law enforcement prepared to stop masked (maybe Federal, maybe not) agents intimidating voters in line to vote, or grabbing ballot boxes?

It’s time for all of us to not be a spectator in watching our 250 year run as a democracy go away. We need to not worry about offending a relative or friend. We need to write and call our state leaders to be sure we are prepared for the worst from Trump at the midterm elections. We need to write to our family and friends and ask them to push back…attend a peaceful rally, donate to non-MAGA candidates, write their legislators.

Again, we hope we’re wrong…time will tell.

Ed and Mary
