NTLF Art in the Library Series presents the work of Aaron Toledo for the month of February in the Manzanita Library.

“Breadcrumbs,” Aaron’s cumulative work from 2024, invites us to “share our experience of simply being present and alive with what we know at any given moment. The works express a sensation within our bodies, a slice of a moment that we may relate to and how we create connection through experiencing ourselves in the world. A simple expression of belonging to something even when we don’t quite know what that is. When we take a moment to pause we notice something within ourselves that leads us towards something new. The quiet curiosity when listening to what our bodies are telling us, resilience through trusting the felt sense within ourselves despite a world of distraction.”

The Artist states, “It was intentional in the work to show layers. Often tinting the supports in bright colors, painting over the high chroma in muted tones. Purposefully leaving behind small glimpses of the under painting. Others were glazed with higher chromatic colors over the earthy underpainting. Something we notice, something that pulls us, something that we don’t know exactly what it is but we can’t ignore. At times it beholds us swiftly and others it’s barely noticeable but lingering and builds eventually becoming part of us, if we listen.”

And sometimes it’s just like breadcrumbs we can only follow what our eyes can see at the moment, and each following builds a bit of trust in ourselves.
