Time and time again those who have a public voice fail to consider Trump’s character and focus. To effectively deal with his troop deployments we must understand what he needs from them.
And that is video “talking points” he can use in his war of rhetoric. He wants graphic evidence of resistance and violence. He is manipulating us by setting up emotionally charged situations between citizens and law enforcement.
State leaders who rightly insist there is no need for federal intervention will be undercut by those who take the bait and provide exactly what this mostly performative president wants.
Protesters should adopt a block party approach by bringing refreshments (non-alcoholic), celebrating peacefully, and staying out of the way. Let their signs do the talking and rejoice in resisting Trump’s un-American tactics.
