Teach you children well…
The Lost Elder
How we share our gift of time,
mother, father, daughter, and son,
a coherent celebration of what is
and how things are, a transmission
and bond of generations, is in danger.
As we witness endless war, rupturing
technology, and a violent injustice,
assured by the protected privilege
of wealthy elites, their architects
of historical revision are compelled
to offer us empty, scripted promises.
This pedagogy is nothing but artifice,
an instrument of privilege. Unless we
return to honor teaching, support
generous voices and life-giving stories,
from love scale joy’s full measure,
how will our children learn to be free,
able to honor their needed elders?
