Gotta admit I fell for the bait initially. Even though I don’t watch Kimmel (all the Trump jokes have lost their appeal for me) the suspension of a decent guy and honorable comedian stole my focus. I’ve read lots of articles, some with errors easy to check, and this one seems the best, accurately covering all the bases:

However I disagree with the journalist’s conclusion. From all my reading it seems more like realization of a Project 2025 goal to control elections in favor of Republicans. Censoring media, in effect, makes free choice difficult for voters. They desperately want to retain control of Congress in 2026. If in this process they manage to piss off enough of their electorate this will backfire.
