Plants are slowing down with the changing season, but our farmers are still in abundant harvests. This is a great week to stock up or buy some extra food to preserve. Apples and roots like beets and carrots keep for weeks in the refrigerator. Potatoes, onions, and garlic can be stored in a cupboard or cool garage for months. Tomatoes, peppers, berries, and peaches, are all easy to freeze: no processing necessary, just pop them in a bag! (Bread also freezes extremely well!) If you’re a little more ambitious, you can ferment or pickle and can many vegetables including green beans, cabbage, radishes, cucumbers, and more.
I hope you will join us to celebrate a bountiful season and stock up with our vendors! Enjoy some tacos, get your fortune told, and share this community space with your friends. Music this week will be by Lauren Sheehan. Called “a one-woman Americana jukebox” according to the Huffington Post, Great Auntie Lo, aka Lauren Sheehan, is a multi-instrumentalist and singer specializing roots of country music; old blues, country songs, rural music, fiddle tunes, early jazz, contemporary folk and originals. Expect vintage guitars, banjo and mandolin.
It’s been a joy and an honor to serve as the market manager this year. This is a special farmers market, with such a wonderful community of vendors, shoppers, musicians, and friends supporting it. I have loved facilitating this community space every week and meeting many of you. Thank you for supporting our local farmers, bakers, crafters, makers, musicians, cooks, healers, artists, and creatives.
See you all Friday, 4-7, for one more hurrah!
