This peaceful protest aims to address recent legislative proposals that threaten voting rights, birthright citizenship, and government transparency, including the proposed Voter ID bill and recent changes to absentee ballot procedures, as well as efforts to limit access to public records. By gathering, we hope to raise awareness and demand action on these critical issues that directly affect our community’s future. As laws and policies put long-standing protections at risk, our unity and resolve in Manzanita stand as a powerful statement for justice and equality.
For your safety, please always remain on the west side of Highway 101 behind the barricade. If you need to cross, use the designated crosswalk near Manzanita Lumber Yard and Big Wave. Volunteers will be there to help you cross safely. Follow directions from our volunteers in orange vests—they are available to help with any questions or concerns. Do not cross the street outside the crosswalk and avoid entering the highway for any reason. If anyone tries to engage negatively, simply walk away and seek help from a volunteer. Our priority is a peaceful, respectful demonstration for all.
Please remember not to park in local business lots around the protest area; these are reserved for customers. Parking is available along Laneda or Manzanita Avenues (without blocking driveways) and at the new City Hall on Manzanita Avenue.
Prepare for changing weather by dressing in layers and bringing water, a chair if needed, and your protest signs (or borrow one of ours). Most importantly, bring your positive spirit and commitment to our shared values.
Just as we stand together for justice and equality in our protest, we also unite to support neighbors in need through our ongoing partnership with the North County Food Bank. We continue to support the North County Food Bank in Wheeler with your generous donations. Each Tuesday, the food and funds collected are delivered, making a meaningful difference for neighbors in need. Last week was a record breaker for food collected, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness and support of this community treasure. In future updates, we look forward to sharing stories from food bank recipients and volunteers, connecting us all more closely with the impact of our efforts.
